What is a professional athlete?

It is an athlete who gets paid to play a sport.
Once you realize that every football player on every SEC team is a professional, and therefore ineligible by SEC's own standard, you realize what a joke the SEC and NCAA position is. Which is why the NCAA keeps losing in court, and will continue to lose in court.

Do all LSU fans pretend to be missing chromosomes or is it just you?
Someone tell me how all other teams in the SEC knew the rules and how to abide by them, but Louisiana wants to play ignorant when they recruit a kid that had two sacks in a preseason game last month.
The Texas kid knew exactly how to keep his options open. No contracts. Just get evaluated and come back if you don't get the feedback you like. Mens's basketball has similar eligibility parameters. Blame the agents. Blame the college coaches for not educating their players.
If one can be educated enough, all can be educated enough.

You are one of the dumbest posters on this board. LSU has not broken any rules. They might break the SEC's new last second rule soon, but so will other teams. You should really just shut your mouth and enjoy watching Auburn get stomped again this season.

I'm old enough to remember when if a college kid signed with an agent then he's no longer eligible to play in college. I assume today they all have agents.

A medical waiver is an eligibility determination, not a legal contract. Those are fundamentally different things.

NCAA clearly shafted the players in the 2022 class with their timing ot the 5 for 5 ruling. The players have every right to sue. Whether LSU should play them is another story. The SEC & NCAA could win at the federal level. The two players in question weren't even drafted, they were free agents. We're not even talking about this if the NCAA does its job.

You missed the point. Re-read the OP. Yesterday's case is irrelevant.
Say you're the NCAA lawyer trying to explain to a judge how college football players getting paid to play football aren't professionals. Let's hear your case, I'm all ears.

This is absurd. No rational person can defend Hutson being eligible but Harris not. Calling Harris a former pro is laughable, especially given that the NCAA screwed him with their incompetence

The NCAA blessed that class with 4 full years of wild wild west NIL.
Look at the honeybadgers and Jacob Hesters that didn't get to enjoy that factor of being a college athlete and stop being so greedy.

They gave the players before them 5 years because of Covid, and the players after them 5 years with the 5 for 5 ruling....wise up.

Not my opinion. NCAA rules specifically distinguish ordinary college compensation from professional athletics and identify signing a contract to compete professionally as an eligibility issue, stated in NCAA Bylaw 12 of Athletics Eligibility
