Just depends on what someone considers huge, big, medium, small, tiny cities.
Lafayette is a small city, still a city, Oxford, Starkville are towns. Did not realize the Auburn "metro" area had that many people. Auburn, Athens, Gainesville, Fayetteville, College Station, Columbia (MO), Knoxville, Tuscaloosa are all small cities with town vibes, again just an opinion.
Then Lexington, Columbia (SC) are medium cities that feel like small cities.
Baton Rouge very different than the others
Nashville is the only large city by any standard. Obviously im not as well versed on the others as BR, but been to every campus/city except Missouri, and Lafayette would be one of the last cities of the 6 or 7 I would have LSU.

What if Louisiana had counties instead of parishes.
Probably greater chance the school would have remained in Pineville, or stayed in the general area like Alexandria, or Natchitoches. Dont know if that was legit question or not.

You are way off on Knoxville The Knoxville metro population is approaching 900k making it the second largest population center.

Lafayette is around 150,000 with CSA of over 620,000 residents. That’s not that small

I thinking Sulpher would be an excellent choice.

My mistake, had compared in previous posts Knoxville most closely with Baton Rouge from where I have been. Like Knoxville a lot better That island/peninsula downtown airport is clutch, and for the terrain yall have always been impressed with how easy it is to move around and yall do a great job during football season keeping the non campus areas clean and safe.

Lafayette is not small. The metro area is the 3rd largest in the state. It’s a pretty big area. Not BR or Nola big but it’s still kind of big. My whole point is, LSU would be better off in a smaller metro.

Again without a reference point or what is small, medium, big, one stoplight town, etc I dont know. I know 150,000 is not that big, and the CSA is pretty stretched I guess the whole one united happy acadiana family crap. Based off of the Lafayette CSA distance, BR would then be able to add Hammond, Mandeville, Ponchatoula.
Lafayette and surrounding areas would probably be the worst alternate location of any city/town in the state no joke for a current LSU campus and student body.

Then Baton Rouge would be a lot cleaner.

Eff off! LSU still feels like a remote campus! It’s beautiful and I don’t give a **** what anyone here says I live less than a mile from campus and I am in an upscale neighborhood and I wouldn’t living anywhere else!

Believe it or not there is some history and had certain people not lost all political authority after the war during reconstruction.
I think PGT, Hebert, and Kirby-Smith (LA civil war leaders) if those names mean anything to you, would have kept/moved/rebuilt the school closer to the Texas border either moving it northwest or southwest of Pineville.

College towns are so much better.

Yeah Tuscaloosa is a shithole city not a town. Baton Rouge is a shithole but atleast it has something going for it besides LSU that contributes to the modern world. If Tuscaloosa burned to the ground no one would care, Nicky would just move the OPs and continue the greatness.

Lake Charles would be my second to last only right ahead of Laffy. Hard choice which would be worse Tuscaloosa or Lake Chuck.
