What if LSU was not located in Baton Rouge?

How do you Tiger fans feel if LSU never built in BR and was built in Lafayette, Hammond or possibly Covington? Act like the whole Pineville thing never happened either. Would we have a town like Athens Oxford and Tuscaloosa? It seems that small college town vibe is a lot better than the big city state capital with a university vibe.

What’s the pros of a big city? I think being an hour from the city is perfect for college towns.

amenities a small town just doesn't have, among others. Plenty of people like living in a city as opposed to a small town, whether it be while they're in college or otherwise. This isn't some unfounded idea.

again, that works for some people, doesn't for others.

I don’t consider BR a big city. Just has big city crime.

As a comparison, I can't imagine Auburn being located in Montgomery. While I'd enjoy the added entertainment opportunities, I wouldn't want to deal with the negatives that tend to come along with bigger cities, like traffic and crime.

Lake Charles would have been a cool spot. Interstate access, small town feel.

Cool history, home of the Pirate Festival (formerly Contraband Days). So, you might be the LSU Pirates, which would have certainly landed LSU Mike Leach instead of Coach O.

That said, the city almost certainly would have developed a lot differently than it had if LSU was founded there. So, there's that.

To your point though, the small town college feel where the city life revolves around the college atmosphere does have its advantages.

It’s the largest parish in Louisiana. Compared to almost every other SEC town, it’s definitely a big city. I’m talking towns like Tuscaloosa, Auburn, Fayetteville size. Like 100k when schools in session.

That depends. "Nice" is a relative term. Would you consider College Station to be nice?

Extremely nice. Very High standard of student living. Zero crime. House values are 100k more than in Baton Rouge. 3 HEBs in a 5 square mile area. Bars going up. CS is booming. There's a reason it's one of the fastest growing cities in the United States.

I would 100% much rather have LSU located in a “hick” town like College Station. It seems so much more peaceful than having to worry about bums at circle K bugging you every day on the way to class or having to live in gated apartments right outside of campus.

I said hick in quotes because I’m sure most of you think Cstat is some hick town with a college in it without ever going there. Trust me, you’d rather have LSU in a town like Lafayette or Hammond within 1 hour of all that city stuff you want.
