So your claim is that A&M had original claim to being the Longhorns (much cooler and catchy and recognizable than Aggies) and chose to give it up in favor of Aggies? How embarrassing if that were actually true. But would make sense in a long line of poor choices to perpetuate irrelevance for A&M while playing from behind UT as the unquestioned flagship school in TX.
And the insecurity of the lower case t.u. for UT fully displays the Aggie inferiority complex. That sad childish crap was OK when you represented the SWC or B12 but stop embarrassing the SEC with your school’s weird, unstable, insecure “traditions”.

Just because they didn't have a live mascot until 1916, doesn't mean they weren't already referring to their team as the Longhorns.
It's not easy to find info from 1903 on the Interwebz and clearly it would be best to go look at actual newspapers from that time, but I've seen several different sources claim that newspapers, cheifly the Daily Texan, started using the moniker Longhorns in 1903 or shortly thereafter.

But I see zero proof that UT "stole" anything from A&M in this regard. Aggy claiming they own "Longhorn" makes as much sense as Disney claiming they own Day of the Dead. Like I said, the longhorn is a universally understood symbol of Texas -- which is probably what inspired A&M to use it for their yearbook name in the first place. A&M distinguished themselves as the Farmers, a military college, Aggies, etc.

It’s not my claim.
Our yearbook was the Long Horn, long before UTex decided on using the steer as their mascot.
And yes, UTex is one of the state’s flagships—very deservedly so.
t.u. was a joke, originated by the cadets.
Amusingly, it annoyed the horns.
So it stuck.

Fair enough.
We know the truth, though.

So Aggies previously named their yearbook The Longhorn while that was the adopted name by which the other, better known school in Texas was known? That seems consistent with the other traditions based on A&M’s inferiority complex. But as UT no longer owns A&M’s conference, there’s no need to continue all the bizarre “traditionsL crap that Aggies created in attempt to get some attention from UT from the beginning of time.

I’m confused.
Why does it matter.
Our Yearbook was the Long Horn.
How does that make us inferior?
We’re continuing “bizarre traditional crap” for calling ourselves Aggies instead?
Some of y’all take this stuff far too seriously.
I don’t get it, but that’s cool.
