Naw limp bizkit fricked up and went to far towards the rap style for their music to hold up over time
Oh I thought it was other reasons their music didn't hold up over time, such as sucking in general.

He's saying that UGA is their first SEC home game this year, and UGA = REM. Dumb joke.
A dumb joke from a dumb poster.

Yep. That’s been said since the 80s when every art student or guy with a guitar was starting a band. All wanted to be the next REM, B52 or Pylon. Some actually had success and the music scene is still going strong in Athens.

Guess we'll just have to settle for ESPN College GameDay instead?

This is what ooorly attended sports programs have to do to try and drum up interest? I bet they got stuff for the kids to do as well and some free sno cones.

We could have incredible bands if we chose. Athens is known for its bands - from the REM and B52 days it’s been a music Mecca. There is a saying that there are 100 bands playing every night - in bars, clubs, concerts, frats and private parties- in Athens and so far I’ve seen nothing to disprove it
You said incredible bands and REM, B-52s in the same sentence. Athens had the most overrated music scene ever.

Guess we all aren’t fans of Alabama hillbilly hoedown tunes. REM was one of the most popular bands in the WORLD. Check it out if you don’t believe it. Obviously others liked them besides me

Nothing big has broken out of Athens since Widespread Panic. Maybe the dj Dangermouse who went on to team up with Blur for The Gorillas.
There's still a bunch of bands, but they mostly suck now.
To be fair, music in general has sucked since the 90's, so it's not necessarily an Athens problem.

Athens still has a great music scene. You either aren’t checking it out or you are going to the wrong places

Of Montreal became pretty big in the late 2000's/early 2010's.

This. I feel like there’s a lack of creativity across all of the arts. Movies and TV are all remakes. Maybe it’s because people have had their heads buried in their phones the last 10 years? Idk.

15 year old example and they never "hit it big". One of their songs was used in a commercial, and another song on a TV show, and they got interviewed on NPR one time.
