I have never heard of any of these awards, my dude.

Well except for the SEC East, but that hasn't meant anything in a decade.

So three people that no longer play or coach for Tennessee get some petty attention and the current team gets an expected bump in preseason expectations.

How is this different than any other summer for Tennessee?

This is the saddest fap thread ever. Like, the kind of fap where you really want to fap, but you have no material, so you fap to thoughts of a long gone ex-girlfriend, and then once you're done fapping you're still left with endless thoughts of what could have been, and you lie in the fetal position wondering how your life reached such a low point. That's this thread.

It truly is the quintessential VOLS week. Perpetual celebration of the past and the potential of the future.

Here's a few things that happened in 1998, for some of those on here that were too young or might not have even been alive:

Tennessee won its last SEC championship
The International Space Station began construction
The Spice Girls broke up
The move 'The Big Lebowski' came out

eta: Bill Clinton, the husband of the current Democratic nominee for president, was embroiled in a scandal involving the definition of the word "is"

Yes, national television coverage is a bad/petty thing.

Yes, it's pretty odd to celebrate a true GOAT's life.

Yes, because the self aggrandizing ESPYs are held in such high esteem and are in no way one of the most mocked televised award shows around.

And nobody but Tennessee and women's basketball fans tuned into Pat's memorial service. As deserved a service as it was for what she gave to both women in particular and sports overall, you're not going to get much "OMG TENNUHSEE IZ FAMOUS!!!!!1!11!11" mileage out of a tv event that just sort of bums people out.

Using a memorial service for a dead coach as part of your team brag.

Classy.

Yep, a top 12 program in the directors cup (though higher tanked than Tennessee), a top academic school in the southeast (though higher ranked than Tennessee), and the producer of the NFL rookie of the year are less nationally relevant than Tennessee. You got me there
