I'm 100% serious. UGA fans need to figure this out quickly;
this situation is not to be trifled with.
UGA fans literally have zero responsibility nor ability to "figure this out". Nothing a fan can say or do has ANY impact at all on this tragedy outside of defining the character of the individual fan. Clutching at pearls as many have done because they despise UGA and UGA's recent success speaks volumes about the character of the individual....it indicates a complete lack of empathy and human compassion.
The situation is indeed very serious and UGA will do what is possible to prevent it happening again but there is NOTHING that can be done to guarantee it won't happen again because life is fraught with danger.
Exactly what is it that UGA is supposedly culpable for? Outside of having information not readily available to the general public there is nothing sinister about the tragedy. It appears as if young people, doing what young people do, paid the ultimate price for their risk taking. UGA apparently had a system in place which mitigated the risk for athletes and provided them a ride when they might be impaired. It didn't work out this time as planned and went horribly awry for some reason yet unknown. Unless UGA has tolerated these drivers taking players to bars and then driving them home under the influence or had some indication this was more than likely going to happen it is simply young people doing things that young people do and, if they are fortunate to survive to be old people will remember doing fondly.

I think I made it pretty clear that we were all sympathetic to the families of the deceased and UGA as a whole when this news broke last week.
But that's not really what this thread is about. This thread is about how UGA's head coach handles the next few weeks and months to navigate what started off as a tragedy (and still is for the families of the involved) but has morphed into something a little deeper and darker.
In what way has the situation morphed??? The individuals were known immediately. The time of day was known. The ownership of the vehicle was known to the Police and was a matter of public record as soon as they responded. Beyond that only a moron of the highest caliber would have been surprised to find out that these young people had been out on the town partying...a moron or someone with an axe to grind, take your pick. The common knowledge that college students drink in bars in college towns is well known so that aspect is not unsuspected to the point to morph a tragedy into some conspiracy theory. The only thing that has changed as far as information goes is the fact that the spot they were partying at is a strip joint, licensed to operate and open to the public, and, appropro of nothing, something of an institution in Athens. I am sure there are some seriously deranged people are shocked by the idea of strip clubs but sane adults are not overly concerned with them existing.
SO what exactly is it that Kirby Smart is facing other than the loss of 4 young adults he had some kind of relationship with? You keep saying there is danger all around but when pressed in what way you claim only the blind can't see it. Apparently blind is the common condition because outside of a couple of people who are not UGA fans no one else can identify this peril that UGA and CFB in general is facing. Please explain what the peril is so we can all clutch at pearls....I bet you can't artiuclate said peril.

Man what a sad and pathetic troll this is. Hoping for the downfall of a program off of two young people's death. The op and most non-UGA posters in this thread really show you what a shite hole and cesspool this place has become.

I mean university employees go to a strip club with players and then ending up in a deadly car crash is very bad. That isn’t really just a “oh well” thing
Thus far there is no information suggesting that went to a bar with players. The allegation is that they left the bar with players and drove a vehicle which was rented by the UGA AD.
I will bet, right now, that when everything that we can know is known we will find that the employees had use of the rental vehicle as part of their job duties which included providing rides to athletes when needed. I will also bet that it is not uncommon and was well known to UGA and the AD that this was done and often at 2 AM or later. I will also bet it is not exclusive to UGA and happens in every town which is home to a major college AD. If it ain't it ought to be. I will further bet that the driver had, in past, indicated mature behavior and excercised sound judgement which would was perceived as an acceptable level of risk to UGA to allow use of a company vehicle. It may well be that the use of the vehicle to take players to town was also well known by the AD and overlooked....if so that is problematic but it is not being reported and probably never will be no matter if true or not. These are the upside of speculation....the downside is that the employee used poor judgement in this instance, that she had displayed such bad judgement in the past and it was overlooked or even worse behavior on the part of some or everyone in the AD and with the University. All of that downside is speculation at this point and is being used by people with an axe to grind against UGA football. They may prove correct and if so UGA will fix the problem but nothing a fan says or does will impact that in the least.

Why don't you spell out exactly what you think is going to come out about this? Before you do, ask yourself if other teams don't do the same thing you want to accuse Georgia of doing. Remember Lane Kiffin and his "Orange Pride"?
What about your team?
The reason none of these folks who pretend to be convinced Kirby is about to be tossed in jail and sentenced to death or whatever wet dream they are currently experiencing is because they haven't any clue what exactly it is that Kirby or UGA or the UGA AD is culpable of.....but they are hoping against hope that they are culpable of something so they do not have to face another Steve Spurrier/Nick Saban type run of dominance in the SEC for more than the last 2 years. They are FANATICS...we all are as CFB FANS....and as such they are in the heat of fantasy land where their current nemesis is ran out of Athens on a rail and wearing a suit of tar and feathers. They are hoping against hope that all manner of sordid and seedy details emerge about this tragedy in the same way folks watch Jerry Springer....they can't articulate their thoughts because they ain't thinking, they had the feels and the feels in this case is a sickening fear of watching yet another team go on a dominating run in the SEC and it not being their team. If hundreds of young people have to die and be dragged through the mud for that to happen so be it...they are fanatics after all, there is no logic or reason in any of us in regard to our fandom.

Some of these sad cases are predicting dire consequences for all of CFB, not just UGA. Yet nary a one of them can articulate exactly what it is that is going to happen. They are hopeful but can't express their thinking because there has been no thinking done only feeling and what they are feeling is dread that UGA is indeed on a run of dominance in the SEC that is years from ending. Some of us lived through Spurrier's reign of terror and almost all have experienced the dread of Saban so it is completely understandable to fear what we have seen in Athens over the last couple of years...but it is seriously derganged to hear of a tragedy involving the death of 2 young people in the prime of life and twist that into the end of an emerging dynasty because you fear yet another one. It is sickening but they are fanatics like all of us...we can stoop to incredibly low and demeaning behavior.

Almost as sad as the UGA fans pretending there is way this is an issue and should just be swept under the rug.
When Tennessee fans learned that Pruitt was running a dirty program we didn’t stick our heads in the sand and pretend it wasn’t true. UGA fans are really showing why Ga turned blue by pulling the typical liberal “everything is fine, nothing to see here” tripe.

You have GOT to be kidding. Tennessee fans, and the program, have tried, unsuccessfully, to distance themselves from anything that Pruitt was doing. Go to VolNation and you’ll see plenty of it. Tennessee fans also have short memories when it comes to female “ambassadors”.

UGA reviewing circumstances of crash, AD says (ESPN)
quote:
"Out of respect for the families involved, we have refrained from making any public statements up to this point regarding the circumstances of the tragic accident that claimed two lives and injured two members of our campus community," Brooks said in a statement.
"However, we want the public to know that the athletic department is conducting a thorough review, in coordination with appropriate legal counsel, to fully understand the circumstances surrounding this tragic event. We want to emphasize that these individuals were not engaged in athletic department duties around the time of this incident."
"Our review is preliminary at this time, and the athletic department is fully cooperating with law enforcement officials to determine all the facts surrounding this tragedy," Brooks said. "Coach Smart and I are also actively reviewing relevant football policies, and at the conclusion of that review, we will take steps to implement any improvements in our policies and procedures that may be needed."
