Ole Miss was never going to allow the LSU coach to coach their team - optically horrible look.
Imagine you are the AD of South Carolina and about to go to the playoffs. Shane Beamer says "frick this place, I'm going to Clemson where I can win a natty.... but I still want to coach this team and be on my best behavior, I promise". His arse would be run out town. This goes for any program with any balls.
Weis Jr is a coordinator without full autonomy over his job - not the same thing. Offensive coordinators work at the whim of the head coach.

To be clear, Weis hasn’t signed a contract, just a term sheet. Not saying he will, but he is able to back out of a term sheet pretty easily if he wanted

Most reports ive seen says he signed a 3 year 6 mil deal.

This must be an attempt by Lane to sabotage further. All I have seen is how bad Weis is and that they were glad he was gone. He was holding om back is what was told.
