NCAA recognizes 0. FWIW.

The NCAA doesn't "recognize" anything...they "list" them. Two years ago the NCAA site "listed" 18 times Alabama has been named National Champions by a series of different polls and selectors. Is there any difference in retroactively "not listing" previous titles? Does it mean they didn't exist?

....No matter how eloquently he put it(and he's rather articulate for a Bama fan) the fact is the governing body of college football, contrary to Gump belief, is the NCAA. They say 9
It just states that you decided to claim a bunch of illegitimate titles in order to beef up a museum.
Why not just claim the 9 undisputed ones and be done with it?

Or Why stop claiming at 14 ....make it 20 or 30 or 100?

I haven't looked at the NCAA site in years, but it used to have a disclaimer on it that said something to the effect of "The NCAA does not recognize or award national championships in Division 1 football. The following is a list of National Championships awarded by media polls and other major selectors"...with a list and number key for the services and selectors used.

The NCAA does? You read that on the NCAA website?
I would love to see the link for where you read that.
Again, you prove my point. You just spout shite with no basis for your position.

..... By that logic, Boise could've been awarded a NC by a local newspaper and claim it.
The 1941 claim tells me all I need to know about how Alabama goes about claiming championships.

Your opinion means a lot when you have no friggin' idea what I'm talking about. It wasn't every podunk newspaper in America...there were major selectors that existed before the days of media polls. Media polls like the AP were created to "legitimize" the process of selecting a NC...just as the BCS was created to further "legitimize" the process and take it out of the hands of media speculation and put it on the field.
Its an evolution of how the champions are determined, and it doesn't mean that the ones won under the previous method are false.
EDIT: The funny thing is that some of the methods used prior to the formation of the AP poll were mathematical formulas used to compare comparative strength and decide the strongest team...much like the BCS computer component today. That was too shady, so using the opinion of the nation's sports journalists was decided to be more "fair".

They call it the mythical championship for a reason. NCAA has no matter in CFB except to regulate it, which is weird when they don't even give a trophy out or recognize titles.

Before the BCS, polls in which coaches and/or sportwriters voted, such as the AP, UPI, and USA Today polls, awarded championships. This led to seasons in which two or even more teams could claim to have won a national championship.
Yes, I'm sure there was no homerism or bias there.
When teams better than you like ND and Mich both finished ahead of you who exactly awarded that NC?

Oh wait...do you think that there is no homerism or regional bias today? If so, there is nothing I can do for you.
As long as media polls are used to determine ANY component of the rankings/seedings of championship series, there will always be charges of (and real) bias.
And where the heck is that quoted section from?

1941- AP went to Minnesota.
1964- AP went to UA even though they went 10-1 (while Arkansas went 11-0).
1973- AP went to ND.

Now tell us about the UPI.
HINT: The the UPI is now called the Coaches Poll, and is a component of the BCS title.

I just find it a little funny y'all claim those two when the AP was the norm from 1936-1985.

Swing and a miss there partner. The AP AND the UPI were both "the norm"...UPI wasn't some fly by night organization, which is why I mentioned that they live on as a component of the BCS.
