Yea, these posters were either too young to remember or are letting nostalgia blind them. I think they’re equating lack of NIL and BCS inaccurately.
Under the BCS, your season could end week 01 with a loss and the anti-SEC bias was way stronger because an SEC SOS seemed to be ignored when compared to other no loss teams in other conferences.
Just ask 2004 Auburn or 2002 GA.

I wouldn't say 2019 was the best year objectively for everyone as a whole.
If I had to pick a year, I might go with 2001, 2005, 2006, 2008. 2007 was pretty fun.

What happened in 2019? Such a random year for a Bama fan to pick. Why 2019?

Nothing prevents a combination of BCS and a playoff. Anything involving a committee is rife with controversy.
The amount of teams is key. All the importance is on the regular season. Every game is like a playoff game. There weren't any free wins. You lost, you were likely eliminated. Week 1, Week 10 or whatever, you needed help and every other game mattered.
Look at Alabama in 2013. A single play with 1 second left in a game completely ends their entire season, and Auburn plays in the NCG. That's how much importance the Iron Bowl had that year.
And it was going on all around the country every week. Oklahoma St missing the FG in 2011 after Alabama was out after losing to LSU. Every week shite changed as teams won and lost. Teams you think for sure are in suddenly getting upset. Alabama losing to Florida in the SECCG in 2008, then vice versa in 2009. 2007 with LSU and all that crazy shite, while they use the SECCG and SoS to push them into the BCS.
You can't just add teams and duplicate those things. The more teams you add, the more it diminishes it. Now we got conference title games where they are playing for byes and somehow losing in them isn't punishable.
It was fun while it lasted anyway. I watched college football basically all week back then. Bowl games still had meaning because you actually spent years developing players.

Well, I don't know if you watched the Covid year or not but the games were not nearly as fun.
I know what you're trying to get at. Bama beat the brakes off Georgia and won a NC but that season as a whole for fans who were not Bama fans, was probably not very enjoyable.
I'm trying to look at objectively and not troll here.

The portal needs to be reigned in.

Boise State at #30. Heh .. that's our playoffs but you all wanted this
Sagarin's good for betting games but no one here likes it because it just uses raw data.

Definitely.
And a lot of guardrails around NIL as well.

I admit to wanting the “plus 1”, but I didn’t want this shite.
Only mouth-breathers wanted a 12 team shitfest.

Congress has to give the NCAA an exemption and given the current state of government, it seems to be trending in the other direction.

I’m arguing with you in another thread about a slightly different topic,

Playoffs are great. Just use computer to rank.

I feel like you had more juggernauts back then. You can make the case that USC could have beaten LSU or Auburn could have beaten USC and Texas could have beaten Florida. But at the end of the day, the BCS is better than today imo. Nobody thought USC was going to do to OU what OU did to Bama this year. That LSU D coaching was the most elite I’ve ever seen. UF had Tebow and Harvin. What can you do.

The BCS was the best system, need to return to it

best team of all time
The “Best team of all time” was 15-0 Clemson team that curb-stomped ESPN’s so-called “greatest of all time” undefeated Alabama squad 44-16 in the 2018 NCG handing the greatest college coach of all time his most humiliating defeat. Class dismissed.

It did feel like it meant more back then
That said, those computers would’ve projected an emoji like:
for Bama for losing to Vandy
Apologies but low hanging fruit joke

It was better because no opt outs no transfers Big Bowl games still mattered etc. in some ways it is more exciting now but it is a watered down product also and we won’t see any true great teams any more it will be much more like NFL great TV ratings but less true passion. It is what it is

If this was 1985, Oregon would beat the Big Ten rep in the Rose Bowl, and would be voted national champion unanimously in both the AP and UPI polls.
And we would all go on with our lives.
