The thing with this stuff is.....the era was a certain way. It wasn't a "football" issue, it was an American issue.
So, sure, mention that it wasn't integrated, but to act like this was a football problem is just obtuse. They clearly handed this off to the wrong people at Disney. That's a shame.
It varied from school to school. Michigan had black players in the 1890s.

But again - football programs were for the most parts products of the areas they existed in.
Integration and the like of CFB by region very much mirrored regional overall norms. Jim Crowe was awful, but it wasnt some sort of football problem. Football was just 1 of 20,000 byproducts of it.

I'll just have to watch it. Hope it's good.

It’s a completely biased, agenda driven, hit piece.
STFU.

Until you hear that integration was just a ploy by the white power structure of the nation.
And you say to yourself, it’s espn.

Unbelievable how bad this was done. College football is one of the major pillars for ESPN’s success right now. Their idea is to have a show that shits on the sport and talks about race.
These people just...don’t...get it.

They are actually arguing AGAINST desegregation right now.
Saying that was the end of black dominance
Holy.shite. I can’t even believe this.
frick ESPN.

Did they continue to allow black players on the team the entire time or did they ban them later on?

You can try to ignore the central role that race has played (and continues to play) in ALL of this country's institutions (as SummerofGeorge has been pointing out, although I don't think he'd use that fact to make the point I'm making here)—but ignoring it is a narrative with an agenda, too.
I, for one, appreciate the healthy dose of honesty this doc provides.

Looks like Fielding Yost banned them for awhile.

I haven't seen it so I don't really want to make an assessment. Talking about it in a specific part of the piece is certainly fair game, especially in comparing regions and how the game was different....
Such as all the great HBCU players from the South that were at Jackson State instead of LSU or Alabama. The interregional games (the famous USC/Bama game) that are so famous. Stuff like that.
It certainly played a key role in the history. Wagging a finger at it in a "shame on football" way would be my only issue (and I haven't seen it so it may not do that) as if this was a "football issue".

Only it’s not honesty as much as it is speculation and assumption disguised by very little fact and honesty.

Wtf. You have a black guy on here bitching about desegregation. He has has an agenda. Everything that has been done in last 70 years has been for the benefit of all athletes, but dudes pissed off he didn’t get 10 more years of black dominance. GTFO

Bama had already signed a black player though.

Celebrating 150 years of CFB? More like let’s talk about how evil white people are for the entire show.
I normally don’t get into the race baiting bullshite but this is ridiculous.

I can see the argument for something like the Negro League in baseball because that put a lot of dudes out of a job.

Ha I know the history I'm saying examing some of the big points in history and moments around the integration movement.

Yeah they skipped over that all together; while not saying it explicitly, they went more of the “Bryant was a racist” route. Only integrated because it benefitted him and to benefit the white power structure
This has been disappointing so far; basically a collection of everything negative that’s happened in the game for 150 years. At least the first half hour anyway. Hopefully they were just getting all of that out of the way and can get in some stories of the game and not just societal issues through the lens of football.

frick this show and it’s agenda
ETA: I taped it so I’m behind, but seriously they’re making it sound like integration was a bad thing, like it was a shame that HBC’s lost all their best players to big schools. That’s a good thing, more talented black players got to play big time football.
