Morris Claiborne- All-American; Predicted Top 5 Draft Pick and first CB off the board.
Tyrann Matheiu- All-American; Heisman Finalist
I know Alabama has the stats, but it's hard to argue with those accolades. And anyone who watched Nov. 5 knows Eric Reid is amazing as well.

I think the secondaries are equal, never said Bama's was better...

No. The best team in history doesn't lose and get dominated in the title game. They were very good but no.

Yes and no. For the "team" to be able to overcome such a weakness at the qb position as LSU dealt with the entire season and produce the results they did is amazing. From a top to bottom analysis of the whole team, I say yes. On the other hand, it is hard to consider a team the greatest when they are so weak at the primary position on the field. From that standpoint, I would say no. With all that said, I don't think the question can be truly answered.

IMO, 2006 is one of LSUs most talented team I've ever seen. They couldn't capitalize that season off with a NC but I do think that was their most talented team ever. Their secondary is great but I'd put them at least equal to Bama IMO. After Maze went out, we had some young guys make plays on them.

then who was better?... definitely not 2007...

The talent level despite the scholarship limit, the best defense in ppg in the modern era. I don't think you could find a Bama team excluding 2009 that could stay within 30 points of this team, assuming McCarron was playing at his bowl game level. I don't get the 'era' comment. You've won 8 (maybe 9, I forget) championships since 1985, are you trying to pump that up?

I always said the loss to Auburn in 2006 was a huge, huge loss for the LSU program. Had LSU won that game, LSU would have made 3 straight trips to the SEC Championship - and very possibly could have had 2 SEC titles and 2 National Championships back to back. (Assuming everything played out the same)

Agreed.

Yes. LSU has never dominated the schedule like they did, and with below average QB play.
We still had a great season. We won the SEC. It's hard to beat a great team twice.
I am very much looking forward to the next few years now that Jefferson is gone.

Disagree.
Just in recent history I think the 09 team was close to as good on defense and was definitely better on offense. Both of those may be arguable, but we much better on special teams in 2009.
And being a true Rantard, the 2011 team didn't even win the SEC.
A bunch of the older guys will argue for the 1979 team.

I actually think the 2003 team, after the UF game, and certainly once the post season began, was the "best Tiger team ever".
Remember, they beat what many thought to be Oklahoma's "best team ever" for the title.
You put the 2003 team (with Saban coaching) versus the 2011 team (with Miles coaching) and I think 2003 team beats them in a close one.
Spears, Webster, Landry, Hill, etc made that team really, really special. And the QB play was much more steady.

The way they blew teams out all year, seemingly not having any "off" games I thought they may be the best LSU team ever, but Im not even positive if this years D is better than '03s and this offense is a tragedy so...i dunno

LSU was so good this year that they were blowing people out left and right with virtually NO quarterback. There only problem was they played against one of the best defenses we have ever had.
Its a shame really but that is how it goes sometimes. This is totally not a flame either. I didnt watch the game until Tuesday cause I thought LSU was gonna win.

No, they just played way over their heads until the last game caught up with them.
Posted on 1/12/12 at 9:27 am to lowspark12
nope. offense not good enough to rank that.

AJ McCarron 234 yards vs LSU's secondary
LSU's defense was on the field for nearly 80% of the game. I challenge any defense in the history of football to hold up the entire game.
