I don't understand why y'all would want another school that is a powerhouse in football anyways. UVA doesn't need to be football powerhouse to bring something to the SEC.

We are strong enough in football and don't need more of a gauntlet schedule. I'd rather get a UVA type than a FSU or Va. Tech type

No thank you. I'd rather Va Tech than any other school in Virginia.

Would rather more than Mizzou though.

I think they add a lot more than VA Tech. A much, much better all around AD. One of the best public schools in the country.

UVA is the biggest prize out there outside of maybe Notre Dame. It's not just a great academic school, it's a truly elite school but more importantly an elite PUBLIC school. The best public school on the East Coast. Paired with UNC and its a complete gamechanger for the SEC. Two strong AD's as well with huge research spends and influence. Also lock up North Carolina and Virginia markets.

Mediocre football teams? Sure, they are right now. The key with UNC and UVA though is they have the money, power, and alumni to change that anytime they want.

I'd rather have Virginia over a niche school like VT.

Gotta look long term and not just the present.

When building the best conference, a true SEC, you want the flagship school from NC and Virginia. The SEC should get UNC and Virginia and hope they both grow their football programs after some time in the SEC.

UVA is also a very good soccer program. If they join with UNC, that's two. How many teams does the SEC need to compete in soccer? Don't we already have 2 schools that compete in CUSA in mens soccer?

UVA has a good baseball program, average basketball program and below average football team

I just don't see them as a good fit

So they are like Mississippi State, but with a better basketball team?

Ralph Sampson could be added to the list of SEC legends, just like Norm Stewart was.

That seems too obvious to answer

Not to the Sheltie fans. They love the Chokies almost as much as JFF.

Not really. The state of Virginia has pretty much nothing in common with the upper midwest, or anywhere in the midwest.

To answer the OP, the better question is why on Earth wouldn't any conference want UVA? Aside from Notre Dame, UVA and UNC are the big prizes in realignment.

UVA is one of the few elite public schools nationally and has a massive endowment. It provides the DC, Richmond, and Hampton Roads markets, is one of the best overall ADs in the country, and would, together with UNC, bolster the academic reputation of the SEC and its member schools to a point that they wouldn't be capable of on their own, at least in the near future.

This is a moot point, though. UVA won't go to the SEC.

I know, but that doesn't mean UVA is "a perfect cultural fit." Far from it, really. The appeal of the B1G relative to the SEC for UVA doesn't really have anything to do with cultural fit.
