Vince Dooley...
My parents have a picture of him sitting on my grandparents couch shaking hands with the first recruit he ever signed for AU as an assistant coach. There was no NSD back then. I could ask my parents the name of the recruit, but I don't remember who it was.
Funny story that goes with it too..
Dooley was young and nervous that day considering it was his first recruit. He asked my grandmother where his coat was when he was ready to go and the papers signed. My grandmother thought he asked for a coke instead of his coat. She said in the refrigerator. Dooley actually got up and went and looked in the fridge and said his coat was not in there.
100% true story. Wonder if Dooley remebers it. Bet he does.

First Auburn and Georgia teams to ever play each other. These are the guys that started it all.
The first college football game between Auburn University and the University of Georgia was played on February 20, 1892 in Piedmont Park in Atlanta, Georgia. The game was the brainchild of Charles Herty of Georgia and George Petrie of Auburn, both trainers at their respective schools and graduate school classmates at The Johns Hopkins University. The game was also, according to legend, when Auburn's team cheer, "War Eagle," originated. Auburn won the game 10–0.

Wish I could get that pic and get it scanned and digitalized so I could post it. I haven't seen it in years, but know my parents still have it.
Think I will text my mom tomorrow and ask her the recruits name and see if it turned out to be anyone of note.

Pledge that the Auburn players had to sign before the first game with Georgia in 1892 stating they would not drink while in Atlanta:

Erk Russell. Source of my favorite football quote...."If we score, we may win. If they never score, we'll never lose."

It can be hard to visualize just how long Auburn and Georgia have been playing each other. These were current events in 1892 when the Deep South's Oldest Rivalry began:
- Ellis Island begins accommodating immigrants to the United States.
- At the YMCA in Springfield, Massachusetts, the first official basketball game is played.
- Rudolf Diesel applies for a patent on his compression ignition engine (the Diesel engine).
- Thomas Edison receives a patent for a two-way telegraph.
- The Dalton Gang, attempting to rob 2 banks in Coffeyville, Kansas, is shot by the townspeople; only Emmett Dalton, with 23 wounds, survives, to spend 14 years in prison.
- To mark the 400th anniversary Columbus Day holiday, the "Pledge of Allegiance" is first recited in unison by students in U.S. public schools.
- Grover Cleveland wins the Presidential election
- Sir Arthur Conan Doyle publishes The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes.

That is pretty cool. I love seeing the old programs and t-shirt designs.
