As badly as I hate to say it, OP's on the money about Pruitt and Tennessee. It WILL take him 3-4 years to get'em back in the SECCG conversation, but unless something negative that seriously impacts the program happens, he'll get there...and both Saban and Smart realize it. It won't take away anything significant from either Alabama or Georgia, but it WILL make the conference even stronger...and harder to win.

It's so incredible to me that people are actually confident to predict UT being some high level national program in a couple years...wiht a guy that has never head-coached a game in his entire life. Not only does he have zero head coaching experience, he has to face annual loss bama and a surging UGA every year. I mean he's practically looking at 2 SEC losses each year right off the bat. Combine that with UF maybe finally getting their shite together and it's laughable.

I don't think pruitt will suck necessarily, but damn give the guy a year or 2 to see waht he's all about before saying he's gonna be winning titles in 3 years and being a national power.

Looks like as many as 7 of the top 10 players could/will leave the state to play college football in the next class. He ain’t gonna do shite until that stops. This is supposed to be a banner year for Tenn talent.

I don't QUITE full agree...UT has never been good on the backs of TN HS talent. They have always relied on poaching talent from GA and other surrounding states, and pruitt is known as a good recruiter.

What's insane to me is pinning all these high hopes on a guy that's never been a head coach and has job-hopped for a while. At least with kirby and his high expectations, he was walking into a decent situation and had basically been saban's right hand man for over a decade.

There are some schools that have the facilities, money, tradition, supporters, etc. just sitting out there waiting on the right maestro to recruit the orchestra, give out the music and pick up the baton. In my opinion, Pruitt is that guy.

of course, and UT has typically been one of those schools

I'm not saying you're wrong by any means, it's an opinion after all, I'm just curious waht you're basing that on. Because he's a good recruiter and knows defense? It'd be differnet if the expectations were to start winning 9/10 games again (whihc seems like ancient history for UT) but peopl are talking about winning titles and being a national force in less than 4 years! That's crazy expectations for a guy with zero experience and an incredibly abrasive personality.

I can understand your trepidation, but I'm of the opinion that he's been successful working under a number of good coaches and that experience (along with his personality) will make him formidable.

Every coach (with the exception of Pat Dye) that has won the SEC since 1992 has done it by year 3. I have no expectations for this coming season or the next one (yet), but if Pruitt is the guy, we will know sooner rather than later.

Of course he has to be that guy, right? He coached for Saban, right? He was Mighty Bama's defensive coordinator! He will be the second coming of Saban!

If this guy had coached anywhere else last year you guys would be shitting all over him like everyone else is. That has disaster written all over it, and it's the karma Phat Phil has been due for a long time.

Because he doesn't like asparagus.
Seriously, Imo, he relentless, tough, will stop at nothing, and will be smart (he's a good learner) in the ways of running a hard nosed, single-minded football program...and instilling those traits in to his team and coaches.
He didn't go there to win any popularity contests...he went to win football games and frick anybody that gets in his way....(what present coach does this remind you of?)
