He's being mentioned because everyone expects him to leave Arkansas as soon as possible.

I hope Urban doesn't die. Other than that, I'm glad his arse is out of the SEC. Having to play those turds every year as the roadblock to Atlanta has not engendered fondness.

Reading between the lines from the ESPN commentators, it sounds like he had panic attacks. They said he had episodes of chest pain and shortness of breath going on for years. When they checked his heart it was "100% healthy". That's pretty classic for panic attacks. A high wound guy like him in a very stressful job could cause that.

Best of wishes to him and his family. Whether or not you liked him, you can't deny he was one of the best coaches in college. On a selfish note, it takes a little zest out of the LSU-UF matchup. I admire him for making the right choice for his family. That must be a hard decision.

May God be with Urban and his family. I could care less about football when a good man is facing severe health problems. The man has a family that is more important than any game they or we will ever play.

I wish him the best of health in the future. And I hope that he can sometime return to the game and sport he loves.

Best wishes to Coach Meyer and his family, this is tough news to hear. I hope to see him back at some point coaching and healthy. Maybe it's just a stressful time and he'll change his mind? This sounds serious though, God bless you Coach Meyer. Go get healthy. As for a replacement, I don't think UF could go anywhere but Dan Mullen. Clearly he was as important as anybody on last year's team.

Could be. I had one once right before stepping in to the door to meet with a potential new account, to make a very important presentation. Never had it happen before or since, but it sure felt like what I suppose a heart attack would feel like for a moment. It took every ounce of willpower to appear composed and excuse myself for a moment until I could calm down. Hope I never experience that again. That's a fricked up feeling.

Wow.

The way his announcement was worded struck me as a bit odd and 2 scenarios popped into my head.

The bit about "consulting with his family" made me wonder if he has a condition that, while not immediately life threatening, is chronic and worsens with stress, ie MS, lupus, etc. If so, he has been ignoring it and the hospitalization after the SECCG was Mrs. Myer's final straw. Something like, "That's it. You are being an idiot and could be sacrificing your health and life for football. Either you quit or me and the kids are out of here."

Second, could it be some type of addiction? Not flaming, but dependence on prescription drugs or alcohol are major wrecking balls.

IDK, there seems to be more here. I hate it for him, his family, and the players. Merry Christmas, huh?

I'm not a fan of Florida by any stretch but my prayers go out to Urban and hope whatever this is, is not life threatening and can be fixed somehow. I know what its like to have a heart problem, I have heart disease and its always on your mind somehow.

Petrino is a known douchebag. He's your douchebag currently, so you like him.

That said, he's a good coach.

Reading between the lines makes me think meyer has been hitting the sauce heavy... Not too many things other than alcoholism can be related to "self destructive behavior". The alcohol could likely be causing secondary problems now.

Just my opinion, not a flame

My bet is the self destructive behavior is the typical coach behavior, shared with guys like Saban. I doubt it is more than that.

At first I was, admittedly happy to hear this news, although that may make me a poor sport, but I know think this totally sucks. What the hell is beating Florida going to be worth next year? Nothing! Its going to make me sick seeing all the specials during games next year, portraying UF as some sort of modern day Marshall. Loosing Tebow and Meyer in one season! Oh the cruelty of it all! How can they go on!? Look how brave the boys in orange are, fighitng on without the two greatest leaders in the history of sports, the USA, and human history!

At least it detracts from human interest stories on Saban.

So do we now have the 2nd best coach in the sec?

Who is "we"? LSU certainly does not have the 2nd best coach in the SEC West, let alone the whole SEC.

We won't have to worry about that, but for the teams that CAN do it, beating Florida is going to worth a hell of a lot next year and beyond. They will hire a great replacement and will continue to be a great team and program. Their AD knows what he is doing.

WHOA pump the brakes...

Florida is every bit as talented as we are, they have a DAMN good QB coming in next year in Brantley, and will undoubtedly hire a top notch coach that will have them competitive on the National scene. Florida isn't going too far downhill anytime soon.
