I didn't think this was a secret. Are there really people who disagree with that statement?

what does his point being ludicrous have to do with your point being equally ludicrous.

Thanks to the media and Auburn fans, most people do not have a clue that the trees were already dying. The story of a yahoo Bama fan killing the trees is just too good to pass up. I am sure the Bama fatigue boosted the interest in the enduring myth of one sad and idiotic man being responsible for the death of the trees.

What a weird hill to die on. Okay so technically people are all dying so if someone were to kill us after Auburn wins the Iron Bowl that’s okay too.

Second, if what Updyke did was disgusting and vile, and it was, what are we supposed to make of a tradition that was doing the same thing, perhaps not as fast?
So if Harvey nuked the planet, you’d also say “well okay let’s examine this, were our factories not already harming the ozone? The world was going to be toast at some point anyway.”

Look, why don't you get off the interwebs Harvey and start paying back some of the money you owe us already.

You can't pressure wash toilet paper out of trees for years and expect it to not harm the tree. Updyke did something dumb but the trees were in fact dying because of how the Auburn people treated them.
LET’S GET THIS STRAIGHT ONCE AND FOR ALL
SO WHAT YOU ARE SAYING IS THAT SAINT HARVEY UPDYKE IN THE MILKSOP GOODNESS OF HIS HEART PUT THOSE TOILET PAPER RAMSHACKLED DYING TREES OUT OF THEIR MISERY
And like a good Texas State Pooper (u know like a Lone Wolf McQuaid or a John Wayne) he shot them up the roots to end their misery
This is a new and exciting angle of Alabama Revisionist History and we should all forgive Harvey for poisoning Toomer’s Entire Corner not just the two Oak trees.
Anybody in?

Yes indeed it is difficult to get bama zealots to understand something when their whole identity, self-esteem and self-worth depend on them not understanding it. It's as if they are in an ignorance coma.

Sadly, I am hearing the same type logic used with Corona, Most of the people are dying are old and have other conditions, so it does not matter.
Yes, like all living things, they would die eventually, but they had many many years before that became a problem.

I dont think anyone is saying those people do not matter.
The feeling is that it isnt worth wrecking the entire economy and thus life for pretty much everyone else just because there's a virus going around that kills a very small percentage of people.

When you refer to those dying as "a very small percentage," you're minimizing the pandemic and their deaths as well.

The Auburn Family treated those trees the same way an abusive parent treats a child, abuse and mistreat for years and years but publicly profess how much they love them, and that they would never hurt them.

What a weird hill to die on. Okay so technically people are all dying so if someone were to kill us after Auburn wins the Iron Bowl that’s okay too.
The trees were not old trees, relative to the normal lifespan of oaks. Is that easy for you to understand? So if they were dying, BEFORE Updyke came along, then you should ask why. The Auburn tradition of rolling the trees with toilet paper and the subsequent pressure washing, was already killing the trees. Is that clear? Some of you seem as dumb as a box of rocks. Of course, if someone is dying of abuse, and someone comes along and shoots him in the head, then of course the person who pulled the trigger should be punished. But wouldn't you want to know who was abusing that person before they were shot? Wouldn't you want to know why that person was approaching a premature date with death?
The irony is that Auburn University did nothing to stop the abusive tradition, even after they realized the trees were under great stress, several years BEFORE Updyke poisoned the roots. I repeat, they did nothing. But planned on planting new trees. Let that sink in. Then tell me again how much you love those trees.

Their toilet paper tradition kills the trees slowly

Reminds me of another tradition.
Posted on 5/4/20 at 10:16 am to texag7
It was the pressure washing that did the most damage, per Auburn University.

Is it not a very small percentage?
Sorry that hurts your feelings.
