I'd like to know who is funding auburn. Its got to be someone with some serious bank that wants to dump it into a black hole with no hope of return.

Let’s be totally honest here, there’s no joy in being a bama fan. Y’all are miserable when you lose (which is happening a lot more these days) and hate your coach. Your non playoff team’s season is made around beating someone who you claim is not your rival. I truly feel sorry for y’all. The ride is over and y’all are stuck being just another team.

Right but it doesn't take into account what you've also added in the high school recruiting cycle. For instance, maybe you lost a freshman to the portal who ever played and replaced that guy on NSD with a higher ranked player at the same position. IDK, the whole ranking of classes is an imperfect algorithm and always will be, just like 247's talent composite rankings. That weighs an incoming true freshman the same as a 4th year player, and they don't re-rate players in that system yet they do if one of those players enters the portal.

Yes, about half as insane as the gump fanbase, particularly when they lose. A lot less violence for sure.

I think it's important to note that in the portal rankings there are a whole lot of "zeroes" in the 5-star column for everyone. A lot of big numbers in the 3-star column.
That kind of shows how the portal is secondary to high school recruiting. Ole Miss has the second best class in the SEC in the portal and has 9 incoming 3-stars.
They only brought in 9 3-stars in their HS class... the rest were 4 or 5 stars. Adding a large number of non-blue chip players in the portal isn't a huge positive in my eyes.
Acquiring talent is the name of the game. Going to the portal to grab a bunch of 3-stars is just... pointless.

In my mind, the following teams have the best transfer portal results. Adding mostly 4-stars without much 3-star fluff in the class.
Miami: 5 4-stars, 0 3-stars
Oregon: 5 4-stars, 1 3-star
Alabama: 4 4-stars, 1 3-star
Maybe LSU: 8 4-stars, 5 3-stars (bit too much there).
