Scoring offense and scoring defense is more important than yds.

Maybe.. tomato-tamato... Feel free to post here or start a thread on scoring offenses/defenses (as always, I’ve provided links in OP for you to easily access and analyze the statistics you or anyone might consider more important).
And to your point…FWIW, the unit rankings in those 2 different categories (scoring offense vs total offense and scoring defense vs total defense) usually line up exactly the same or very close to one another…They typically look nearly identical.

Playing Arkansas sure helps.

Also just looking at conference games only would be preferable.

Yep. Makes a big difference.

Maybe?
Can you tell me in what universe how many yards you gained is more important than how many points you scored on your opponent?

It is very important to computer models.

The rankings in both line up very closely is all I’m saying. Good scoring offenses have good total offenses, and vice versa. Almost always. Good scoring defenses have good total defenses, and vice versa. Almost always. Because the categories, by their nature, measure the same thing: offense and defense.
You’re getting caught in the weeds if that’s what you’re thinking about when looking at and analyzing statistics.
I never said scoring points or not giving up points doesn’t matter…. For some strange reason, that’s what you’re implying and it’s a waste of statistical discussion IMO.

Now do scoring offense and scoring defense since points win games, not yards.

Have at it. No one is stopping you. Data and links are right there for you and easily accessible.

Fell free to do that yourself

LSU fans: here's something entirely and completely irrelevant to winning games that we're good at
Others: ok what about literally the only thing that matters regarding winning games?
LSU fans: what's it to ya? Who cares, basically the same thing. Just figure it out yourself geez

UGA Fans : your stats don’t matter but I’m too lazy to post the stats I keep referencing

Wait, so your argument is that moving the ball on offense and stopping the other team from moving the ball on defense is “completely irrelevant” (your words) and doesn’t matter?
That’s your position? Odd argument, but to each his own.
FWIW, I have never once stated scoring offense and scoring defense don’t matter. So I’m not even sure why you’re even referencing that…Couldn’t be further from the truth or my opinion on scoring offenses or defenses. Yall for some reason are interpreting/implying that for who knows what reason(s).

I swear every time I open one of these stat modeling threads, the OP lasts about 3 posts before they get defensive or tell everyone why their opinions don't matter, without actually giving detail.
Not picking on you specifically, but I've seen the exact same pattern by about 4 different posters here recently.
All people are asking for are a few more rows on the spreadsheet & a data set w/non-conference games excluded.

Yes. What matters is how many points you scored compared to how many points they scored. Kind of a big deal when it comes to who wins the game. Last I checked there has never in history been a game where they consulted the box score for yardage totals to award the winner
