Too easy.
In 1983 Bammer claimed 6 NCs. You absolutely DID NOT have 6. That was bogus.
For the sake of argument we're going to say your bullshite claim was legit.
Since 1983 Bammer has won 7 legit titles. No dispute at all. 1992, 2009, 2011, 2012, 2015, 2017, 2020.
7 + 6 = 18
Bammer Math.
"We gots 18 nashnul champships...DUH HUH!"

Complete deflection from his point about UTs made up titles.

Most of those were Coach Bryant accomplishments, at least do a little research
Even the ncaa says you are wrong...... as I posted earlier
Now before Coach Saban retires I full expect Alabama to win 3-4 more NC so Coach Saban can tie or break Coach Wooden's record
and allow Chicken to continue to add to this 2013 thread (which Alabama has won 3 more since then)
edit to add- this thread is fun, it just affirms Alabama being the greatest college football program of all time.
Thanks

Legit.... 1961, 1964, 1965, 1973, 1978, 1979 (6)
All AP, Coaches polls
The 83 media guide was only counting poll NCs (AP and Coaches).
So 6 + 7 = 13 (AP; Coaches; BCS; CFP National Champs)
The 18 is counting the 4 Rose Bowl wins before the AP poll era and the 1941 (which I don't count).
Me, personally, I would only count the AP, Coaches, BCS, CFP National Championships.
Why does Tennesse count 6??
1938, TCU - AP;
1940, Minnesota - AP;
1950, OU - AP and UPI;
1967, USC - AP & UPI.
Only legit national championships for Tennessee according to the polls is 1951 & 1998.
NCAA.com only has Tennessee with 2 in the history of Division 1 National Championships; Alabama with 16 which includes the 6 you say are bogus. LINK

Not sure how anyone could dispute the '25 title considering the history and the Rose Bowl win over undefeated Washington.

I just feel like if the NCAA would just count the poll era only championships for all teams, there would be less arguments.

It was a different time, a different space and a different mindset. General Neyland regarded bowl games as a reward to the players for a season well done. The titles had already been decided. It was not a playoff, not a title game. There wasn't even a poll after that game. If you read about the shenanigans that went on during the Vols' train trip to Hollywood for the Rose Bowl, it gives an understanding of General Neyland's relaxed attitude.
Tennessee claims six national championships and yet only two of them (1951, 1998) were awarded by a major wire service. And lest we forget, the 1951 Tennessee Volunteers lost their bowl game after the national championship was awarded to them.

I like this thread where Chicken acknowledges that Alabama is the "greatest of all time."
quote:
Alabama, which is a great program and arguably the greatest of all time, claims 18 national titles. But only 8 came in seasons in which they finished the regular season No. 1 or 2 and played the No. 1 or 2 team in their final game of the season. Alabama's legit titles came in 1978, 1992, 2009, 2011, 2012, 2015, 2017 and 2020.
LINK
And by the Chicken argument (which is only the #1 & #2 team playing), Alabama still has more than twice the amount of titles than any other team in division 1 college football.

quote:The same with Alabama's 1964 title and 1973 title. Awarded before the bowls and was legitimate according to the rules at the time.

Bama has some great teams and coaches like Bryant, Wade, Thomas, Stallings. But until Coach Saban took over, there was still arguments that ND, Ohio St., Oklahoma, etc. were the greatest.
