Tennessee claims six national championships and yet only two of them (1951, 1998) were awarded by a major wire service. And lest we forget, the 1951 Tennessee Volunteers lost their bowl game after the national championship was awarded to them.

Bama fans are the only people I've ever met that are fine with "taking away" some of these claimed titles. Because that still leaves more than anyone else, and the current coach keeps piling them on.

The 2019 UT media guide lists UT with 6 natties (98, 67, 51, 50, 40, & 38)..... The 1984 UT media guide only lists 2 (1938 & 51).
UT added 4 extra - 67, 50, 40 with 98 being the only legitimate one. The NCAA only recognizes 51 & 98.

You would think the founder would not be so jealous, but even he has to make himself feels worthy as football season is coming and it looks like Alabama is poised to take the title again. I guess the spurned relationship still eats at his ego.
