Yes, but the issue is that the conference allowed Bama to determine its own internal penalty for something exponentially worse than a mere routine targeting penalty.
In what terms is a punch exponentially worse? I guess in terms of behavior....yes. It is worse. One is done purposely (Punches) and the other(targeting), more often than not is an accident. In terms of injury it is not. Targeting (forcible contact to the head or neck area) could cause paralysis. (Not the way Devin White delivered it, but targeting is targeting)
I mean, I don't think I ever went through a full year of football in which punches were thrown against the other team, and sometimes between teammates. (Teammates usually during practice)

Question. Are you saying the player deserves to be punished and therefore should miss time, or are you just mad because it did not affect Alabama?
He was kept out of the next game. I do agree that the penalty should have been worse, though.

In what way is throwing punches at another player worse than a football play that gets ruled targeting by the officials? If you really need someone to explain that one to you just go ahead and ban yourself from posting here.

It's not from a potential injury stand point

Can you explain why the ref did not kick him out of the game right then and there though? He obviously saw him throw a punch (or punches) to throw the flag and the penalty for fighting is ejection in the NCAA rulebook.
By the way, having a guy who threw three punches from behind sit out for one half is weak on Saban's part. The SEC left it up to Saban to discipline him though... But that's just a personal opinion. He should have clearly been kicked out of the Mizzou game though.

Do you honestly believe that Fitzgerald was really in danger of being injured on that play?

No, I don't.

So how is Devin White's hit on Fitzgerald worse or even on the same level as Davis throwing punches during a game?

That play was still more likely to result in an injury than the punches Davis threw. That's what the rule is for

I know how concerned many of you were that nothing would happen to him so I thought I would alleviate your fears

So when players get in a fight no big deal, half game suspension. Then they can return.
You have also stated that you don't think White's hit was a danger to injure Fitzgerald. So wouldn't that mean that in fact isn't what the rule was for?

That's what the rule is for, yes. The official thought that play was a violation of the rule. I didn't make the call

Saban should have suspended him for the whole game. That's what I would have done

Not even a full game? Why am I not surprised?
Multiple punches thrown. Sits for half.

outside of a fb game, he would be in jail and would have a criminal record
during the game, he got to take a 30 min break and then back to business.

No he wouldn't. The cops and legal system aren't wasting time on 3 punches where no one got hurt

We won't need him for the second half vs L8U either.

why didn't the SEC suspend him?
