They had just as much talent in 2002 when they lost to Ohio State in the national championship game.

Superior talent does not always equate to a superior team.

Going undefeated vs. not is often times a matter of schedule or luck.

Very true.

Alabama '11 and '12 were both way better teams than 09 for example.

Going by your above quote, how can you argue this? Did '11 and '12 Alabama have more talent than '09 Alabama? Yeah. But were they both better teams? That's debatable. Alabama had the second toughest schedule of 2009 and they finished 14-0, defeating #7 Virginia Tech (34-24), #20 Ole Miss (22-3), #22 South Carolina (20-6), #9 LSU (24-15), #1 Florida (32-13), and #2 Texas (37-21).

No, it does not. Take 2010 Alabama for example. That was probably the most talented team Saban has had in his entire coaching career and they sustained 3 losses that season.

And yet the 2011 team gets called his best team because of all of the talent that has been drafted off of it.

The 2010 Alabama team had all of that talent as well - plus Julio Jones, Mark Ingram and Marcell Dareus.

It was 18th in the country at 61-45.

For reference, Alabama in 2009 also went undefeated and played the [b]toughest schedule in the country.[/img] Played two #1 teams (at one point in the season) back to back on the two biggest stages and beat the shite out of both of them. Miami beat a mediocre Nebraska squad that limped their way into the championship much like LSU did in 2007.

Not saying that 2009 was the best, but 2001 Miami was nothing special outside their NFL talent on their roster.

Bitch.

And yet, the 2011 team tied what the 2001 miami team did in the draft. we seem to be getting off track, the fact that the 2001 team had an unbelievable amount of talent is kind of the point when it comes to them, because that's the one of the major ways we can compare teams across different eras. The 2001 team is easily a top 5 team of all time and the 2011 bama team could be on their level once we give it a few more years

I mean...off the top of my head, the 2010 Alabama football team had the following future first rounders playing meaningful snaps:

Julio Jones
Marcell Dareus
Mark Ingram
Trent Richardson
Dee Milliner
Mark Barron
Dont'a Hightower
Dre Kirkpatrick
James Carpenter
Chance Warmack
D.J. Fluker

HaHa Clinton-Dix, who redshirted that season, was a 12th man on that roster who eventually got drafted in the first round.

And most of those were on the 2011 team no? Just like the 2001 miami team had what the 2002 team had but ed reed, Clinton Portis, and Andre Johnson. That's two first ballot hall of famers and an all pro

All but three (Julio Jones, Marcell Dareus, and Mark Ingram). Making 2010 Alabama more talented than 2011 Alabama. That's three first rounders that were on the 2010 team that weren't on the 2011 team.

That's completely false especially pertaining to the 2012 team. The 2009 team would never have let Johnny Manziel run all over them like the 2012 team did and they never had a game when they looked as helpless defensively as the '12 team did against Mettenberger and LSU. Also, the 2009 team would have shut down the UGA team that gave Bama all kinds of problems in the 2012 SEC Championship Game.

I've moved on from that debate. I couldn't care less. Both teams were uber talented. You could tell that '02 Miami had taken a step back just by watching their games.

2001 Miami played six teams that finished the season ranked in the top 25. They beat those teams by an average score of 42-13. It's a complete myth that Miami played a soft schedule but even if they did, the Canes had only two close games the entire year and in both of those games, they didn't trail for a single second. Their resume stacks up well with anybody.

Both against 8-4 teams.

Dominant, but not unbeatable.

And 1995 Nebraska had no close games. That's why I put them over '01 Miami. I think '71 Nebraska and '72 USC also might have been superior teams to the 2001 Hurricanes.
