Its just such small town shite at Ole Miss.
It has always reminded me of UCA. I could see any of the above happening at UCA. Of course there are a lot of mediocre, small town people at UCA. Conformity is extremely important, and most of them haven't been anywhere or seen anything outside of the Little Rock suburbs.

I want to believe that, I really do.
Well 3 people in the audience and 2 that were in the play said that it wasn't true.
They admitted they were pissed at the sheer stupidity that the players didn't know how to act at a play but that anyone who says they yelled out homophobic slurs is lying their arse off to get attention.

i actually think this is pretty ironic/funny. most of the cynical thoughts about Ole Miss have to do with racial issues...I'd put good money that the culprits here were probably black football players.

I agree, the culture at Ole Miss is just... different. I visited many, many times to hang out with a buddy from high school who went there for college. The thinly veiled racism is palpable. Thing is, most people I met who said racist things didn't realize they were racist, at least I don't think they did. I heard a lot of qualifications like, "Not to be racist, but..." and no one really batted an eye at it. Even my friend said some shite that made me uncomfortable, and he never said anything like that in high school.
I may have gotten an unrepresentative sample, but my experiences in Oxford with Ole Miss students has definitely made me perceive the culture there as being... non-progressive, let's say.
Parties were awesome though. Seriously, my best college partying was done at Ole Miss.
edit: I'll add that I definitely believe there are plenty of non-racists and liberal folks at OM, but the people my friend hung out with were of another flavor.

I was just thinking that as long as some black people were involved maybe this will blow over in a day or two

Your sample must have been the shite part of the fanbase. There are events every week that the university puts on to promote diversity and progressiveness and a fair amount of students are involved.

Why would someone just make that up?

I have a music appreciation class with an obviously fruity professor and the football players are complete jackasses.

Have you never heard of the Daily Mississippian?

Forgive me for not giving a shite.

Henry loves dipping his head in the sand from time to time.

I hung out with MY friends in Fayetteville and we were all quite liberal. My friend at OM hung out with a much more conservative crowd.
You don't know shite about the university then. There are events every week that the university puts on to promote diversity and progressiveness and a fair amount of students are involved.

It reminds me of a small redneck school masquerading as a major university.

it's a play about a gay kid
black folk historically are very against that
freshman football players are usually idiots, couple that with a bullshite class
pretty plausible scenario here

Does the play point out the person murdered was involved in a drug deal gone bad, and was not killed because of his sexual orientation?
they never do. its a one sided narrative, as always

To get attention. Like I said, I've talked to people that were in the play and in the audience. They said it's not true at all.
The Daily Mississippian probably interviewed a theatre geek that wanted to cause a shite storm and ran that part of the story because one person said it happened.

It sounds like you were looking for it.

It quite possible -- likely, even, given human nature -- that they didn't make it up per se, just exaggerated it. If one person calls out "fig" in the middle of an otherwise boisterous but not bigoted group of people, some listeners won't be able to contain themselves from racing out and spreading the word in the most sensationalistic manner possible.
