WTF..it's like UM Creed Week doesn't mean anything anymore. WHEN DID THIS HAPPEN

Does Ole Miss have a similar statement? It's up to the professor on what to do here, but I have to imagine that if they would send them to that play in the first place they won't be happy with it
quote:
The University of Alabama values the diversity of its student body and is committed to providing a classroom atmosphere that encourages the equitable participation of all students. Patterns of interaction between the faculty member and students and among the students themselves may inadvertently communicate preconceptions about (or the essentializing of) student abilities based on ability, age, class, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, nationalities/national origins, race, religion, regionalism, and/or sexuality. These patterns are due in part to the differences the students themselves bring to the classroom; however students and instructors must attend to potential devaluation of students that can occur by reference to demeaning stereotypes of any particular group or overlooking the contributions of any particular group to the topic under discussion. Joking at the expense of any particular group creates an inhospitable environment and is inappropriate.
Instructors and students should be particularly sensitive to being equitable in the opportunities they provide students to answer questions in class, to contribute their own ideas, and to participate fully in projects in and outside of the classroom. Moreover, in providing evaluations of students, it is essential that instructors and students avoid distorting these evaluations based on preconceived notions/expectations about the intellectual capacities of any group.

My question is...did these children come to Ole Miss homophobic or did Freeze teach them to be this way?

I agree, if you can find out who said what and who didn't say anything. Too much is on the line to blanket suspend every FB player at the play.

Maybe the acting was very bad and the players were stating their opinions. You can't improve your acting if don't know what's wrong with it.

This will end up getting more attention than the Vandy rape case.

Although, the knee jerk reaction is to suspend, I don't think it's necessary in this case.
Take this opportunity to TEACH these young men, not discipline. Disciplining will do nothing but drive them towards more hatred of others. Teach them that they may have family, friends or teammates who are gay. Teach them to walk in anothers shoes. Teach them to respect other people.
I just hope this doesn't turn into some fluff PR thing for Ole Miss. If anything, help these kids understand and help others learn from their actions.
You don't have to believe being gay is right, you don't have to be ok with it, but you should learn to respect others.

Yes they weren't calling the actors "phag" they were saying "you need to be a bigger phag" in response to the poor acting

Exactly. If these actors are crying over a little constructive criticism then they will never make it in most fascists of life.
