Says he needs to be closer to home. He is a pretty good player for that defense. Kinda surprised this hasn’t happened more.

Why would you want to be closer to older relatives during Covid?

It's much safer away from them on a campus.

Marcel Brooks used “personal reasons and need to be closer to home” to transfer from LSU to TCU.

He is just using that as an excuse to get immediately eligible at the school he is transferring to.

He's a pretty good player so I hate to see him leave but that's a bullshite reason if I ever saw one. And the NCAA will probably grant it while denying players like Luke Ford and others who are legit.

Was he going to start or second string?

Second string. He did start two games last year.

Edit: although he might have been 3rd string this year with Webb and Stevenson ahead of him.

Whatever the cited reason it's because he was dropping on the depth chart.

Wish him the best.

He was basically 1B at our nickel spot last year. A good week of practice, and he would start over Mark Webb who got most of the starts. He was the dime DB for much of the season. And when Webb got dinged, he was the nickel.

Tyreque the freak Stevenson got more playing time as the season progressed and as we needed help against larger tight ends.
So it would have been likely that he would have been 2nd string or just the dime DB.

He balled out in the sugar bowl against texas. He had a few other games where he was a hero. But overall, lacked consistency to knock off Webb or hold back Stevenson.

It is a loss because depth at DB is crucial when facing a team like LSU where we went to 7 DBs.

I liked Wilson, but tyrique is a next level talent. Anything to make it easier to get him on tbe field is ok with me. It kinds sucks our db room is so stacked. This season we'll have Stokes, DJ daniel, and Campbell at corners along with incoming freak Ringo. If Wilson leaving shores up Stevenson getting on tbe field oh well

Wilson wasn't keeping Stevenson off the field.

Stevenson would be on the sidelines if the opponent wasn't using a tight end. By seasons end, that was his regular responsibility.

We had 7 DBs against LSU and they weren't good enough (a lot of the struggles on Webb and Wilson). Stevenson absolutely is an upgrade. But we need more than that.

Yep, the NCAA will not dare turn it down. Same with saying its based on race today. Organizations are scared to death of both issues.

6 players from Georgia's 2018 #1 recruiting class gone.

3 five stars - Brenton Cox, Cade Mayes, Justin Fields. & 3 four stars- Ford, Reese, & Joseph.

Bama lost a 5 star out of that class. But losing 3 out of 7 five stars seems like a lot.

Cox wasn't a big loss. He had very visible issues on the field and got passed on the depth chart by just about every one (true freshman 5 star, juco transfer, and redshirt freshman). Weve continued to recruit the position with excellence.

Fields was a loss. When the WR group got hurt and depleted, having a QB who could create offense and opportunities with his legs would have been a huge help. We have addressed this with solid recruiting and 2 transfers for 2020.

As a starter, losing Cade Mays shouldnt be too much of an issue. The roster is very talented at OL. However Mays played every position on the OL in the 3 deep. And we absolutely needed him in 2019 in that role. If injuries bite like they did in 2018 and 2019, he would be sorely missed.

Losing Ford hurt a ton. We hadn't effectively recruited behind him except for the 2020 class. We've needed serviceable grad transfers each of the past 2 years to make up for him going home to IL.

Joseph was no but deal. Never showed up with the team. CB may he our best position on the team.

Reese would have been needed in 2021. We are locked up with Lecounte and Cine at S for 2020. We dont really rotate S, so it is a matter of injuries or wanting a 3rd safety to drop down to linebacker against a team (LSU).

With the exception of Ford and Mays for his utility, the attrition shouldnt be an issue in 2020.
