No. Here is what you said. (Hint Record Book...not online site) Wikipedia is not mentioned. You must not be remembering well today.

I am not going slog through all of that but what we do know is the the NCAA which doesn't recognize national champions in football does list Auburn as being selected in 1913, 1957, 1983, 1993, 2010.

You know...I guess this is the problem with these things. There are so many sources, then we have publications that are retroactively awarding them. It's a shame that there isn't a more definitive way to do this.
Typically, I just go by what the University claims, but then you have a wide range of what a University uses as criteria. It would seem as If Auburn chooses not to recognize some that they legitimately could. Some other Universities might claim they really should not.

Claims and actual titles are two different things. UCF claims a title, but it doesn't mean they have one. How you can claim Auburn has a title when the University itself does not is beyond me.

I mean, if some Auburn fans get jacked up over some obscure publication naming them as a champion, that's ok.

(Not talkign to you, as I have not seen you claim these things. Again, the only reason I am saying anything is because warcry want so belittle Georgia.)
Surely if you go into a thread and find somebody needlessly attacking Auburn you would defend Auburn, right?

I am not actually claiming it. Those teams were selected by selectors. You must be young. That is how titles were given out in the old days. Technically 2004 Auburn was also selected but the BCS agreement invalidated the other selectors.

In 1983 we had the most selectors of any of the 3 teams with selections.

At the end of the day Auburn painted itself in a corner by making fun of bama claiming titles it hadn't previously claimed. Once it was obvious that it was a recruiting advantage I suspect our fanbase looks back now and thinks...hmmm!!! Maybe we should have should quietly hung some new banners as well.

Back to the 1980 joke. It works because Monday was the first legit shot to be champion ya'll have had in a long time. You can say 2012 or 2007, but those seasons were no different than Auburn 2017. If you'd won the right game you might have had a shot but you didn't, nor did Auburn. However, in 1983, 1993 Auburn not only was selected champions...in 1983 it wasn't really close. In 2004 that team did everything it could do which again shows the bias of the system.

So saying we waited from 1957 till 2010 isn't the same as uga waiting from 1980 till now. The circumstances are different. I say all that only to refute the comparison. I have already stated in this thread and in others that uga has the pieces in place to get another shot.

I found the NCAA record book AU is bragging about. It lists UGA as a Poll Champion for: 1920, 1927, 1942, 1946, 1968, and 1980.

Really? That shocks me. I've never heard those years claimed by anybody. Do you have a link to that? I am interested as to the reasoning.

You guys must be young. ;)

Basically, if you won the Rose bowl pre 1920 you are the champion. Then the selectors grow from there...its the reason the NCAA doesn't recognize a champion.

Yeah, but the reasoning is that some poll/system/people the NCAA chose to acknowledge selected us in those years.

I know you aren't. I have found you to be one of the more reasonable Auburn posters. Nothing like warcry, AU24 and some others. I was mainly taking a swipe at warcry for being a bit of a jerk. Unfortunately you walked into my troll to him.

You've caught me from time to time. I was not one of your fans awhile back!
Most people on here are good people. Very few get under my skin anymore. I usually never start a troll, but if somebody attempts to troll Georgia I usually will jump in with both feet, and, unfortunately, get a little too ruthless.

I wish. I would be one of the older posters on the board, I would think. I easily remember 1980!

No worries. I don't take anything on here personal. I assume some are serious, but most are like me and just bored people having fun.

Looks like this thread has run its course. But, as for the OP......we will have a good year, but no way in the world we win big...national title big.

Frick no. We've already got to deal with Jimbo now and a resurgent Auburn team. Let them wander in mediocrity

I remember after every title run its hard not to feel invincible going into the next season

Then it starts, and you realize it’s a different team, and so are the teams you are playing. You never really know what will happen

What? The offense finished higher in every category except scoring

2009 offense scored over 100 fewer points, good for a decrease of over 7 points per game.

Rushing dropped by over 10 ypg.

Turnovers increased.

Demps and Rainey both saw their ypc decrease, and no one remotely replicated Percy's 9.4 ypc average.

Once again, not a single actual retort. Just trolls as usual. I can’t wait to come back to this post in a year.
