Georgia's d-line is looking small and short on depth

Mike Thornton 6-2 290
Chris Mayes 6-4 315
John Atkins 6-4 305
Toby Johnson 6-4 312
Lamont Gaillard 6-2 315
But isn't that small and short on depth? Wait, how many DT play in the 3-4...wait, we are 3 deep even for a 4-3? Isn't 300lbs small though?

The most recent depth chart I can find, which is on Rivals, lists the starters as 6'3 282, 6'3 265, and 6'1 290. Can a Georgia fan link me to an accurate depth chart?

No, because an updated chart won't be released until Fall Camp starts (when official weigh ins are conducted). Guys weights will have fluctuated both up and down as S&C is trying to slim down our 320+ guys so that they can play faster while also bulking up some of our lighter guys hovering around 180.

Of those five players listed Johnson is listed as a DE. Gaillard isn't listed on your official roster for some reason, but he is a freshman. Atkins is a RS freshman, leaving you with 2 interior DL on your roster with any decent experience, and they both play nose.
Bama, another 3-4 team, has 10 DTs listed on its roster.
Just sayin.

Not every 3-4 is created the same. Pruitt has insisted throughout the summer that all defensive players lose weight and that we will not have a true space eating nose. Taylor had actually lost 20 lbs already. Mayes, Drew, and Bailey all started at least 6 games last year. If I had to guess, Toby Johnson takes over for Mayes and our starting 3 DL for Clemson are Johnson, Bailey, and Drew. This was easily the one position where we could afford some attrition this year. 2015 depth along the DL will be much thinner though.

The culture around the UGA program is the worst in the SEC. This happens every year under Richt

It's also worth noting that we're no longer playing a traditional 3-4 with a space eating nose tackle. DTs are being cross-trained as DEs and vice versa (which is why Johnson appears a DE on some depth charts. Really every guy on th eline should just appear as a DL). So it's not as though we are restricted to only those linemen in the middle.

Yeah! It's only UGA! Those bastards! Auburn, Alabama, LSU, A&M, Tennessee would never have offseason incidents, let alone incidents involving violence. Meanwhile, at UGA, you have players mugging other students, sucker punching people at bars, pouring beer on people and punching them in the face, robbing convenience stores. And to top it all off, they have a team vote to give all those guys a chance to stay on the team! They never get dismissed to play at other universities or even suspended for meaningful games like Clemson or South Carolina! THAT NEVER HAPPENS! Ugh, the culture is awful! THE CULTURE!

Agreed. UGA is fine at DT and DL.
We often only had 2 DL on the field when we were in nickel with Jordan Jenkins and Leonard Floyd on the edges.
We have plenty of numbers.
JT was a weight room warrior. It hadn't translated on the field yet. But 2015 would have been his time to shine. That's what we are losing out on. He's eaten up a scholarship spot and provided virtually no benefit for the past 2 seasons (3 if you want to consider that we were counting on him for this season). Not the end of the world

Depth issues dont come into play until November when players are tired and few get hurt.
Nov. 15 is lookin good!

4 man front against nickel (80% of the teams we play spread the field the majority of the time).
Jordan Jenkins (OLB)
2 DTs
Leonard Floyd (OLB)
Who do we have to fill those 2 spots?
Mike Thornton
Sterling Bailey
Ray Drew
Josh Dawson
James DeLoach
John Atkins
Chris Mayes
Toby Johnson
Lamont Gaillard
So there are times that we'll play 3 DL?
We've got 9 guys listed. 7 of which are upper-classmen and a redshirt freshman who will be 22 years old this season (John Atkins).
We're fine... even in November.

They certainly aren't known for their high quality character guys. I get it though, it's about winning football games. You aren't given raises and contract extensions for signing elite students and law abiding citizens.
Richt has decided to go for guys who are dangerous and violent off the field, in hopes that it translates to the field.
It's paid off to a certain extent, but are all those wins worth being known as the 'thuggiest' program in America? I don't know, only an UGA fan can answer that.

Doubtful. Was one of Tray Matthews cohorts on the check cashing scheme. We dont need two from the same crop.
Now he has another crime and given that he was a 4th string DT, AU wont take him.
