Here's the thing - no, Smart doesn't have head coaching experience - but this dude is the best recruiter in the NCAA, outside of God... eh... I mean Nick Saban. Combine that with the fact that he's going to be recruiting his home state of Georgia - one of the most talent rich states in the country, and you've got yourself a winning combination.

On top of that, Kirby will be able to hire top notch coordinators to work for him because everyone loves the dude and loves working with the dude. They'll also be top notch recruiters to boot.

The biggest knock on Kirby is that he's been under Saban, and it's supposedly "Saban's defense." That may have been true in 2008, but it is certainly not true in 2015. Kirby runs that shite. You never see Nick doing anything but bitching out referees and cussing out Lane Kiffin, and ripping defensive backs a new one.

My guess is that UGA will be the force in the East for the foreseeable future - as McElwain really does have some rebuilding to do that has been masked by a super weak East division.

Enjoy it UGA fans.

It's a risk just like any other new coach not named Saban, Meyer, or Harbaugh.

Premature, but I suppose you are well acquainted with that kind of thing.

I'd hired Enos over him.

I'm pretty sure Herman had to have been offered the job before Smart. I can't trust a guy who has coached another guy's defense for years. It's not like Kirby was like Jimbo and coached the other side of the ball from Saban.

I don't see the Kirby hire any different from the Muschamp hire as Muschamp ran Saban's defense at LSU and the Dolphins and Tuberville's at Auburn.

If you don't think Saban is watching film and coming up with schemes for Bama's defense you're crazy.

I think it's a good hire. If he can hook up with the right OC he should have success

Kirby is a much better recruiter than Muschamp. By a wide margin.

That will be what separates Kirby from the rest. He'll be in the middle of arguably the most talent rich state in the southeast, with no in state competition for those 5* recruits. If you think he's going to let those top tier guys slip out like Richt was famous for doing, think again. Kirby will lock that shite down in a hurry.

Kirby will be solid IF he hires good OCs.

We don't know how he puts a staff together yet.

If you think Kirby needs Saban's help to do that at this point, you're crazy. I'm sure that's exactly what happens, but Kirby isn't dependent on Nick Saban for anything he does.

We'll see...
Seems like hiring a coordinator as your head coach hasn't worked out very well recently.

Its a good hire with a HUGE Upside and Great Potential. If it pans out then its a Homerun. I'm a Kirby Smart fan and hope he does great until Bama play's them:)
