You should be able to leave at half.
JK. Not that bad a drive, but I'd get a late checkout at the hotel.

After a game it takes much longer.
Not too much longer. But night games are usually the worst with most leaving at the same time. But if you know best/alternate routes out of Tuscaloosa to interstate, I don’t think more than 30-45 minutes extra. GPS your way around wrecks on the interstate also. Ive probably take 5-6 different routes back to B’ham over the years.

Tusca hotels look like shite with little availability for the Arky game
As someone who travels for work, Tuscaloosa hotels are shite. Any of them worth a damn are already gone. I stay at Academy lane between Tuscaloosa and Birmingham some and the hotel is just ok but the area is still shite.

I've never been to a game where it doesn't take at least 2 hours to get back to Birmingham. Apparently I'm doing something wrong. I've sat in traffic for 3 to 4 hours to get from Bryant Denny Stadium back to Birmingham on several occasions.

I stay in Birmingham after basically every home game. 1-1.5 hours depending on wrecks after the game.
Definitely better than staying in Tuscaloosa!

If it’s a late game, we’re screwed anyway.
Booked the Elyton in Bham.
Looking forward to it BAMMERZ.

Would I be making a huge mistake if the game was a 6pmer and trying to stay in Bham that night?
Egress might be better than its ever been. Better entrance on the interstate from McFarland (though I still recommend you find 359 and get to 20/259 that way), 3 lanes all the way, etc.
Having said that Mcfarland has been a shite show for years. Once you get on the interstate it'll be fine unless there's a wreck.

Why don't the folks in Tuscaloosa make it easier to get to the interstate after the game? That part can take 1-2 hours.

I live on the far northeastern side of Birmingham. We park downtown, ride the Crimson Ride shuttle ($1.00) that drops you at the big Baptist church on Bryant Drive. Walk to our seats in the NE corner of stadium. We try to leave midway through the 4th unless it's a close game, catch the shuttle back downtown. Then zip on down to 359 and I59. Barring a terrible wreck, we can get back home in about two hours from the time we leave our seats. Depending on where you're staying in Birmingham, you can erase 15-30 minutes from that.
All bets are off if you stay until the bitter end or if you make the mistake of parking in a parking deck!! We sat in a deck a few years ago at the LSU game for TWO HOURS, just trying to get out of the deck. Was nearly midnight before we exited the deck. DO NOT park in a parking deck.
