True Freshman full-time starting QBs at P5 Programs since 2008 (Eason & Hurts)

Only 17 (per "qualified" stats) over the last 9 years at P5 schools.
As you can imagine, not a lot of big winning. Only 2 finished ranked and only 1 won a Division Titles. 0 of the true freshman QBs won conference or national titles, and 0 finished in the Top 15.

Bama is the most talented team in the country year in and year out and has the best coach. You could plug in Stephen Hawking at QB and Bama would still win 10 games.

Let's see how Hurts performs when Alabama plays a defense that isn't Swiss cheese

Hurts is looking good so far. He isn't the most accurate at 20+ yds but he is above 60% and he scores. He can hurt you with his legs but he doesn't take off that much, instead he tries to find an open receiver. So far so good. Our championship aspirations ride on his ability to get the timing down with our sick group of receivers. If he gets it down then we are gonna run the table. I am not confident it will happen.

To be fair, Eason won't have technically been the full-time starter since Lambert started game 1.

OK, up-vote for String Theory, but the proper answer is Black Holes..cause true freshman suck and stuff

Hurts didn't start this first game either (technically).
I don't know the exact rules for "qualifying" for stats as a QB, but I assume it's like baseball and at-bats.

My guess is he would do much better than 50% completions and 100 yds versus JSU.

How does Terrelle Pryor not qualify? He made nine starts as a true freshman in 2008.

I actually agree. Ole Miss has talent on defense but they aren't really great. Honestly I'm not sure that there is a great defense on the schedule. I think Texas A&M presents the most problems.
I'm not ready to crown Hurts yet. He hasn't made many mistakes on the stat sheet but could easily have 3-4 interceptions had DB's made a better play. His problem is the same one that Coker faced early though. He wants to see a guy open instead of trusting the route and throwing him open. That gives the defense more time to either get to him or get to the open receiver.
Coker was light years better at the end of the season in that aspect, so hopefully he'll continue to get more comfortable in the offense and that part of his game will improve. Other than that, he has all the tools. Nice arm, good speed, tough as nails, and doesn't get rattled.

He was a sophomore in 2009
His freshman year (2008) he went 100/165 (60.6%), 12 TD/4 INT , 1311 yards and a rating of 146.5 and ran for 631 yards on 139 carries.
Probably because he only threw 165 passes would be my guess. As a comparison, Hurts has already thrown 135, Eason 151 and Buechele 119.
However, I'd agree he should be on the list.

True. But I'm also not confident that it won't happen. At this point in the season, I feel better about our team than the last two years. Hurts is definitely no worse than Sims or Coker as seniors, and is probably playing better.

There's definitely one.
I'm not by any means saying their offense is capable of moving much on BAMA's defense, but the defense is STOUT.

LSU probably has the best all-around defense on the schedule, but they are giving up 326 YPG, 4.8 YPP and have given up 325+ yards 3 times already, to a 1AA offense and 2 below average P5 offenses.
It's a very all around solid unit, but it's not terrifying.

If you're referring to LSU, I'm going to use the same logic and say let's see them play an offense with a pulse first. I've watched LSU play several times this year and "bend but don't break" seems like a better description than stout. Late October and early November will tell us a lot more about the LSU defense.

That's fair.
We will see what happens. I'm more of a believer in that defense than I am Hurts right now.
But wtf do I know? They've proved me wrong every fricking time I've pointed out that there could be a deficiency at QB.

Good post. I wish it had more than just QBR, but still a cool post.
I wonder where Hurts and Eason will finish on that list.
So far, Kaaya is the leader.
Eason is about to go into a stretch of shitty secondaries and seems to have made stark improvement since day one. I could see his QBR going up.
Haven't watched much Bama, but I assume Hurts is doing pretty good too, or Saban wouldn't be playing him.
