From Adam Wilson's link:

?Johnny Manziel's percentages are interesting. He was as good as anybody on the super-short passes (<5 yards), decent from 5-14 yards, great from 15-19 yards and pretty spotty on anything deeper.

Which is like saying Manziel isn't Stephen McGee or Jerrod Johnson. So fricking what?

Now you're just being argumentative. My point was that there are system qbs and then there are NFL qbs in a system. That is frickING what!

Then his HS coach is exactly where he belongs. Andrew Luck had one of the highest velocities and quickest releases in combine history. Mariota isn't even in the same ballpark. You know who had the prettiest release in recent memory? Landry Jones, a sixth round pick. How a player's motion looks is largely irrelevant unless its completely beyond repair ala Tebow.

He could've played in any offensive system because he is that good.

Which is precisely why he was a three-star whose ONLY other D-1 offer was from Memphis.

Just stop while you're behind.

Johnny Manziel led the SEC in completions and completion percentage in passes over 20 yards.

If that makes him spotty, then Mariota is shitty as frick as he was second and fourth in the Pac-Whatever respectively.

Mariota didn't play until he was a Senior. He had another kid that went on to play D1 in front of him. He had an offer to Washington and after his name got out there he started getting calls to be recruited but his recruitment was closed. You can't honestly believe what you are saying, right? Some kids go out and collect offers like trophies and others close it off when they are done. Mariota could've collected a lot more offers.

Stats argument:

Pass Distribution:

Completion Rates For Different Pass Distances

Alright, so what if all of these quarterbacks threw the same percentage of passes to different lengths? With the charting data at hand, we can come up with our own approximation of Stats, LLC's Real Completion Percentage. For fun, I'll call it a QB's Adjusted Completion Percentage. You know, to be different.
quote:

Below are the adjusted completion percentages for quarterbacks passes at the following rates:
17.8 percent <0 yards, 21.4 percent 0-4 yards, 24.3 percent 5-9 yards, 14.0 percent 10-14 yards, 8.9 percent 15-19 yards, 4.9 percent 20-24 yards, 3.1 percent 25-29 yards, 2.3 percent 30-34 yards, 1.8 percent 35-39 yards, and 1.6 percent 40+ yards.

Marcus Mariota Oregon 67.6%
Johnny Manziel Texas A&M 66.8%

This has proven to be true with exceptional rarity (who was the last Texas Tech, West Virginia, Oregon or joe-blow mid-major spread QB to make it big in the NFL?) and the rare exceptions (like Sam Bradford) threw the ball downfield regularly unlike Mariota.

The bottom line is that nothing Mariota has done so far indicates he is an NFL starter. He is a great athlete who runs the spread option and zone read as good as anyone, but the NFL requires more than dumpoffs, roll outs and the occasional bomb to a streaking, wide open TE or receiver to succeed.

No. THE BOTTOM LINE is that there are like 12-20 good NFL qbs, PERIOD. No one becomes a great qb in the league - only exceptions. If you have a great qb, you are lucky and they are the franchise. Oregon has had plenty of qbs go to the league...Akili Smith, Joey Harrington, AJ Feeley, Kellen Clemens, Dennis Dixon and all of the guys drafted 1st or 2nd round (Smith, Harrington, Clemens) bombed in the NFL. Dennis Dixon and AJ Feeley have had the better NFL careers getting drafted in the 6th round. Saying that Manziel or Mariota won't be starters in the league is a good probability. What I am talking about here is DRAFT GRADE. What the experts believe their POTENTIAL is, ROGER.

Literally nobody outside the state of Oregon believes Mariota could have made those throws to Swope or the TD to Kennedy against Bama.

Hmmm... Prove it.

SOOO in recap (I haven't read anything you have typed on this thread}, you think that Mariota is good for the NFL because he makes all the throws JFF does, but he is 6'4" and 220 lbs right? And Johnny is 6'0" 200 lbs?

Its the intangibles thing right?

No...I was responding to a aTm poster that called Mariota a system qb. I do think at the end of the day though that the size of Mariota and his ability to sit in the pocket and go through progressions before ad-libbing that will make him a better NFL prospect. Also, he said go break down the film on his throwing motion. From what I've read Mariota is a more polished product mechanic wise.

Don't worry Aggie fans. Bisonduck knows his boy can't compete in the SEC. Manziel set an SEC offensive record for total offense. Case closed.

How in the hell does Nick Marshall even sniff this list?

20 INTs is not a good thing.

Bumped.

Mariota is doing work. While Johnny Dehydrated skipped out on the Manning Camp, Mariota was doing film study.

Went back to do double practice to make up for lost time.
