What about Auburn?

i may have underestimated AU but that's due to the Gus factor.

They were the fifth ranked offensive line in the league according to Phil Steele’s preseason rankings. As the anchor of the second best offense in the league they out perforned that ranking. So yes, I am disputing it.

What does Gus have to do with our DL?

He seems to bring down the level of play across the board.

ie: 2013 title game, second half; SEC title game this year against UGA; losing this year to LSU despite having more talent on the field; and a pathetic showing against UCF.

I thought Gus was going to be amazing. The melt in the 2013 title game was bad but I chalked it up as an aberration and FSU selling its soul to the devil. But too many other bad performances and collapses since.

UF is over rated. It won't be top 3.

Our collapse in 2013 had a lot to do tour avg to below avg D talent. Even assuming Gus impacts defensive play, 2018 defense is much much more talented than 2013.

Good stuff, but Elgton was always a starter. It was Greg Eiland that subbed in for an injured Rankin, and somehow we didn't really miss a beat dropping from a top 3 round LT to a RS FR.

Whoops, yea my mistake!

Well, Steele is the outlier. Everywhere else, including end of year stats, Ole Miss was in the bottom half.

Again, it's Ole Miss - and that is the norm for Ole Miss. I can't understand why this hurts you so badly.

Fair enough. The individual talent is there, for sure.

He has the ability to elevate play as well. You can't say otherwise. The 2013 team lacked a ton of talent, but whipped everybody they played except FSU and 1/2 of LSU in a rain storm.

The most dangerous game in football is a bowl game where one team has 5 or 6 guys who will be drafted and another 4 or 5 guys with a belief that they will be drafted playing a bunch of future gym teachers and insurance salesman. The level of effort is very different. You can blame the coach, but even Saban has fallen prey to this circumstance. It's a tough place to be. In the benz you could feel it in the players, fans, etc...we tried to cheer and be excited but nobody wanted to be there but UCF.

Not sure how you define talent, but LSU has a higher average recruiting ranking than Auburn for the last 5 years.

Lol at you using your biases as some sort of standard. They were among the best in the league this year and will be even better next. All reasonable offensive stats best that out. Probably top three in next years Phil Steele rankings. Delete this thread and do better next time.
