2010 was by far our most underachieving team so far this century. We went 10-3 and finished #10 with the following future first round draft picks on the roster:

Julio Jones
Mark Ingram II
Trent Richardson
James Carpenter
D.J. Fluker
Chance Warmack
Marcell Dareus
Dont’a Hightower
C.J. Mosley
Dre Kirkpatrick
Dee Milliner
Mark Barron

And that’s not even including major contributors who weren’t taken in the first round like Eddie Lacy, Barrett Jones (a future CFB Hall of Fame inductee), and Robert Lester.

You might want to recheck that then. Because one of the teams has never gone to the SECCG in Atlanta except as a spectator if I’m not much mistaken

Well let us know which one you think it is. Because all those programs have been to Atlanta. Only 4 have not-- Ole Miss, A&M, Kentucky, and Vandy. And none of those schools are on the list.

2008 UGA was far bigger underachiever than the depleted 2013 UGA. So was 2014 UGA

Beat 4 ranked teams (AP final) by an average of 29 pts yet somehow lost to 2
unranked teams (SC/UF)

Metrics were off the charts.

Underachieved far more than the banged up '13 team and even more than '08 IMO

The stinking Vols.

Do check from the time the game moved to Atlanta who has been, and who hasn’t

2010 FL wasn’t that great of a team. 8-4 was about right

An honorable mention would be 2001 Mississippi State. Preseason ranked as high as #8 or #11 by some publications? Finished 3-8. Had several NFL players on that roster. The end of the Sherrill era was the beginning of bleakness for nearly a decade in Starkville.

Hosted the first football game in the country post 9/11.

How isn’t the list filled with Georgia and LSU? Lol, my reaction as well. Not sure many of these teams have had near the talent as the Georgia or LSU teams that underachieved with simply 9-10 wins.

2019 Bama should be a dishonorable mention.

The Vols played in Atlanta in ‘97 and ‘98, then lost twice to LSU in ‘07 and either ‘01 or ‘02

2020 Lsu shouldn’t be anywhere on this list. 2019 lsu lost 25 players to the draft and opt outs. Our team was completely gutted.

List is sh*t without the 2018 State team on it.
That team should have won 10-11 games but instead lost 5 games.
Very much underachieved.

Before the opt-outs, LSU returned Chase and Marshall at WR. Brennan wasn't Joe Burrow above the shoulders, but was far superior to him below the neck- tall, with an absolute gun for an arm, and a quick release. Arik Gilbert was a highly touted TE that was expected to emerge, and we returned 2 backs (Emery and Davis-Price) that were expected to step up.
Lost Aranda as defensive coordinator, but was expected to have an NFL secondary with Stingley and Ricks.
We thought we had the talent pipeline in place, everyone expected the machine to keep humming.

Season was a disaster.

and agree 2001 State started out in the top ten and finished 3-8.

Will say the MWC referees completely robbed us beating an undefeated BYU team in a December game that was postponed because of 9/11. Their OL bear hugged our Defense the whole night. You hear the crowd booing throughout the game because it was so obvious. In fact , my wife who is not a football aficionado was pointing out holding on them and was booing herself. The whole game.
They finally called one holding call on BYU late in the fourth quarter. The absolute worst officiated game I have ever seen. And I generally defend the officials. But not that night.

I am surprised Tennessee isn’t on it more. Especially with our Butch Jones hype

2020 LSU????

Covid

Team got gutted

Nobody expected them as National Champs

Agree. 70% of the team starters were gone from the 2019 team to NFL .The top guys returning(chase, stingley,Brennan,Marcel brooks,Rosethal) decided not to play/transfer or were injured. Whoever wrote that story didnt do their research.
