We're not the ones crying over a tree like we just watched a puppy get hit by a car.
The trees were over a hundred years old, people are going to have a pretty strong reaction over something that has been passed down through so many generations...

Why the hell do some of you think this is funny? That's a shitty thing to do...period. Rivalries are fun, but this is ridiculous, and this dude needs to go to jail for an extended amount of time.
Its shitty. But replant the tree. These oaks are nothing like the Southern Live Oak's on LSU's campus.
Its also pretty convenient that the release was the same day as the NCAA investigation heats up.

It was historic, nostalgic for a lot of people, and part of a tradition, which may be mocked here and that's fine, but a tradition that was pretty special to Auburn folks.
I get that. I really do. Like you, I often think of Auburn while I'm wiping my arse.

It is shitty, and the dude that did this needs to get a life. At the same time, some people need to realize that this isn't going to dramatically affect their life. The response is going to be the tits though.

wait, wait... so, people actually care about the particular trees that were attacked? i haven't been keeping up with the thread until 2 seconds ago. so help me here.
there are auburn fans that give a shite about the actual trees?

Auburn's response is going to be hilarious! I picture a tow truck with the hook attached to one of the statues. Sparks flying from Coach Stallings playsheet as he bounces down MacFarland.
I love prank wars.
I love prank wars.

"We will take every step we can to save the Toomer's oaks, which have been the home of countless celebrations and a symbol of the Auburn spirit for generations of Auburn students, fans, alumni and the community," said University President Jay Gogue.
Gogue asked members of the Auburn Family to "continue to be 'All In' in upholding its reputation for class" and not allow anger to be expressed inappropriately or undeservedly.
"It is understandable to feel outrage in reaction to a malicious act of vandalism," Gogue said. "However, we should live up to the example we set in becoming national champions and the beliefs expressed in our Auburn Creed. Individuals act alone, not on behalf of anyone or any place, and all universities are vulnerable to and condemn such reprehensible acts."
Meh. O'Keefe's letter to PETA was way better than this...

The tit for tat here could be very interesting.

Don't you worry Ponyboy... we're going to get them Socials...
So fitting:
Nothing Gold Can Stay by Robert Frost (poem recited by Ponyboy in Outsiders)
Nature's first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf's a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.

Not really, I'm not sure if you realize the taxpayer money and effort its going to take to uproot an oak tree and replant the replacements that are already 10-15 years old and already would have huge root systems

I think it's more likely that some drunk barner idiot will have his arse handed to him by a security guard than an actual retaliatory prank taking place.

nobody thinks poisoning the tree was funny. The thread itself is funny.

I am not looking forward to the Auburn response.
No doubt! It's never a good move to destroy something of sentimental value. Bomb 'em with toilet paper from a crop duster, but don't kill their trees. Next thing ya know, someone will light up some statues with thermite. It's not a good thing.
