the battle flag became popular again in the late 1940's as a symbol of civil rights protest. not exactly something to be proud of.

My intent was that it is bullshite not to fly a state flag at a ballgame because they want to be politically correct. I'm not a MSU fan but I do have a degree from there and donate a few bucks each year. They have received my last measly donation.

The state flag of Mississippi was adopted in 1894.

Nevertheless, the battle flag flag is just a flag a flag and nothing more. What is significant is the symbolism that is attached to it. Moreover, symbolism can change over time, and the flag symbolizes different things to different people.

Unless, it's a flag of a giant penis waving above the state capital, we can't go around erasing and banning symbols just because some people find them offensive. What we can do is sit down and have an honest discussion about it instead of yelling back and forth at one another.

You are obviously a young person. Please stay in school and hopefully you will learn something about the world in which you actually live.

On to the more important issues: LSU 34-MSU 21.

You can vote on it everyday of the week and there will never be a majority in the state of Mississippi wanting to change it.

If the US military wasn't in their countries, Arabs wouldn't care about a country on the other side of the world.

Back to the topic of the post, the politically correct culture currently ravishing America is completely out of control. A state university refusing to allow their ROTC members to raise the state flag, as well as the national flag, is completely absurd. If MSU is that afraid to offend someone by raising the flag of their own state, then they should refuse to accept any money from their state coffers. Does flying a particular flag have any real affect on anyone? If I see someone wearing colors that I do not support, it does not affect my life in any way whatsoever. The general public has become so sensitive that they are denying people their freedom. I would rather be offended 100 times a day than have my freedom of expression limited.

I'm an autodidact. Louisiana's state institution has nothing to do with my opinion.

Let me be plain, if I may...

I agree, I don't think we should be in Iraq, Iran, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Syria... Let them kill each other and take their oil.

Problem is they have asked, begged to be protected and we have at major costs to our military men's and Womens lives...

And at a great debt to our nations funds. Without being paid back, or given a damn about.

I am sick of this apathy towards our great nation but giving a crap about muslim lives... I know, I know..

"Muslim lives matter"

ATAP!!!! Lets see the downvotes on this one.

I'll give you a down vote. First, I'm a veteran. Don't ever talk about military lives. You are out of your depth. Second, I wear the rebel flag on my arm, tattoo when I was 17, and my tattoo represents rebellion and nothing else. Third, I joined this forum because I thought I could badger crimson tide fans. Is this sort of conversation what I should expect? frick you. Anybody want to talk college football?

Yeah, the flag Dan Mullen seems so fond of and as usual pandering to your idiotic fanbase. But call us racist and see if we give a shite. Better to be called a racist than a terrorist.

Reading comprehension fail. They won't be presenting the flags pregame with a little march holding their flags on a pole before the national anthem. The giant flag that flies in our stadium will still be there that everyone looks to during the national anthem.

Public Mississippi university doesn't want to parade the civilly controversial state flag before the game and rather than blatantly leave it out (state school), they chose to just leave that little ceremony out altogether.
