You weren't around here when that happened. You should've seen the mental gymnastics some of your fellow Dawgs were performing trying to justify it. One poster, I can't remember his name, went with the "what Simmons did was a part of black culture and Ole Miss is racist for questioning it" strategy. 
I think the best part of it all was Simmons was suspended for one half . . . of one game . . . against South Alabama . . . where Dan Mullen wore shorts . . . and State lost.

Does anyone go to away egg bowls?
Last away egg bowl I was at was 2014 and I doubt I’ll ever go back (bad luck) but I do miss heading by my hometowns tent in the grove and getting all sorts of free liquor/food from rebel friends
I walk up to my hometown tent and obviously not a paying member but they immediately would hand me a solo cup with 90% makers and shove food (cold abners) in my face.

He was suspended for the first game. Charges were dropped. The "girl" he was whipping was almost as big as he was and was bullying his sister.
Besides, Reverend Hugh forgave him of his sins when he was recruiting Jeff to come to Ole Miss. I imagine your Simmons take would have changed dramatically if he ended up in Oxford.
So the outrage you shitheads were showing over the whole thing was vintage Ole Miss bullshite.
ETA: I definitely was around at that time and I remember y'all's bullshite over the whole thing.

I did in college. But my brother went to State.
The last time I went some drunk Bulldawg threw an empty pint bottle at me from up in the stands and hit my brother's girlfriend's mom in the head (I was guilty of having an Ole Miss cap on). She collapsed. A bunch of pussy State students stared straight down and feigned ignorance when we turned around and started up the stands. Security intervened and kicked them all out.
