A couple years ago in the midst of the Gamecock five peat, I think some fans were wondering if it was a changing of the guard between the two programs. It felt like the additional TV money and competent coaching staff with Spurrier was going to put USC ahead for the next decade.

And then Dabo went and hired Venables… and he continued to add elite players along both lines of scrimmage. Today's dominance is not guaranteed tomorrow. Today Clemson is a better program, but that can change. Clemson historically has rarely been as good as they have over the past five years. I will enjoy it, hope it continues, and know it might not.

Clemson has been more successful than SC for the same reasons the football Gods will never allow SC to win a championship: One, Williams Brice is located in the middle of a flea market. Two, Garnet isn't a real color. Outside of the association Garnet has to the University, no one has ever heard of it. Three, and most importantly, the football Gods will never allow a team referred to as "Cocks" to be successful. Never.

Here's what I think it is.

Our AD has this stupid idea that we need to be good at all sports.

While Clemson pumps about 95% of their money into just football.

Maybe I'm wrong. But we regularly are better than them in everything but football.

Maybe thats the issue

1. Check your arse, baw. Because it seems so chapped that it has surpassed red and is now a nice shade of Garnet.

2. You seem to have an issue with the word cocks. I'm guessing it illicits thoughts of your lack of one.

You obviously haven't been there in a very long time. Its not a flea market anymore. There's a $52 mil football ops center being built there though.

I've heard garnet referred to as a color my whole life. It's a thing. What kind of weird point is this? lol

Can we get an IQ test before people are allowed a username here?

Hm. Impressive. Name checks out.

You never know when its all gonna go down the tube. We were top 10 to start the year when we fell off.

Fl. St. was #3 to start the year last year right? Loads of talent still on that team.

He meant fairgrounds, I’m sure. But, same thing.

The stadium and all is nice, but it’s in a shitty, industrial part of town. You can only do so much with an off-campus stadium like that.

nah, there used to be a flea market over there to the right of the stadium, but they tore it down like 5 years or so ago and built a really nice grassy tailgating lot/parking lot deal. It looks awesome now.

But yea, behind the stadium down shop/bluff road looks rough. Immediately around the stadium in the last 2-3 years though has been completely revamped.

I can tell you. Clemson has enough sense to hire Alabama people. aka Danny Ford and Dabo.

NC schools controlled the conference and treated both SC and Clemson like we were redneck stepchildren. I mean they expected us both to play home basketball games against UNC and Duke in Charlotte. And because of the large amount of talent in SC, the NC schools conspired to raise academic standards to keep our talent out of the ACC. At the same time, the ACC created an exceptions committee stacked with members of the Big 4 schools, which became a way for NC recruits who didn't qualify to get approval and ours to be denied

I'm assuming they did all this due to Frank Mcquire's
success in the late 60's and early 70's but still doesn't explain why being independent
hurt you guys in CFB during that time period. '71 to '91 was somewhat of the "golden era" for independents in FB.Miami,FSU,Penn State,Pittsburgh and ND all were national powers...there were some definite advantages in scheduling and conference scholarship limitations (earlier) SC also had the fan support to pull it off and schools like GT and Tulane didn't.
