To build character Nick Saban suspends receiver for big game

This is what I love about Nick Saban. He is never afraid to suspend a player even when it's Alabama's biggest rivalry game of the year. Saban is sending a message that no one Bama player is above the team. A "team vote" simply won't do and I applaud him for it.
Even though Smith's punch was a reaction to an aggie player punching him first, why let an opportunity to show sportsmanship and "how it's done at Bama" pass when you can suspend a star wide receiver in the first half against a team that is already on the verge of beating a team like Alabama in a game where stats and records are thrown out?
Tua will have to make do with Jeudy, Ruggs and 2nd stringer, Waddle. This will make the game extra tough for their beleaguered QB and could put a NC title run in jeopardy but Nick Saban is not afraid to build character over just winning games. Wins be damned. I like it because it throws down a gauntlet to other schools who seem to ignore their players' thuggish behavior.

It's gonna be iffy now with the suspension. This is what I respect about Bama: character matters. Rivalries will have to wait.

So are you saying that Smith should not be suspended until it's a game we might lose, instead of for the next game after the incident? Personally don't see why he's getting suspended at all, he already missed part of the a&m game. plus he was just responding in kind to getting thrown down and punched twice (by a guy who inexplicably didn't also get ejected)

So, the big bad Aggie is the bad guy while he was the target of a punch?
The penalty and the suspension for throwing a punch was against the Alabama player, not O'neal.
I thought you guys were tougher than that.

Refs do miss calls, but that only happens in favor of Alabama.
Or at least that's what we are told.
