As a lifetime Razorback fan this surprised me. Chad Morris and Pittman really felt like zero win seasons. I guess the whiskey was really strong those years.

So, LSU’s only winless season was its first. In 1893, some of those guys probably thought they were signing up for soccer.

Tennessee officially suspended varsity football in 1917 and 1918 during World War I (most players were called away to war). During this period without varsity football, two unofficial teams were formed from Army recruits and students. One team represented a training unit called the Fighting Mechanics and the other represented the Student Army Training Corps (SATC).
The 1891 team was the first Tennessee football team (it was an intramural squad), and their only game was against Sewanee, played in Chattanooga. Tennessee didn't have an official varsity team until 1899. That first "official" team in 1899 finished 6-2, but one of those losses was 51-0 to Sewanee.

It's also amusing to see the teams those 1890s and 1900s squads played (and lost to). Things like Baton Rouge Volunteer FD and Tuscaloosa Moose Lodge #63.
Best thing about Whitworth is that he was so bad we ponied up for Bryant. Just sad that it got leaked before he could finish that season with A&M; I think that team would have won the national title if the story hadn't gotten out.

True that Arkansas has never had a winless season. That being said, their 1894 team finished 2-1. They beat Fort Smith High School twice and lost to The University of Texas.
Their 1896 team (2-1) had 2 wins over Fort Smith High School and lost to Drury.

The 1890s were a rough decade for Alabama football. Since the telephone was a new concept and many places did not have service and gasoline powered cars had just been invented, recruiting was a challenge.

*** Got to give 1948 aggy credit for saving up their best game against their hated nemesis TEXAS. aggy was able to tie TEXAS 14-14 in Austin. aggy then went home, but TEXAS went on to beat Georgia 41 - 28 in Miami on January 1.
