I am not going to hate on the guy, but in the games I watched he just seemed too anxious when trying to make the completion. I also think there were some pretty lofty expectations based on his freshman year. As far your RB, I don't know what to say. The new Alabama offensive philosophy is different for sure but it is weird not watching a dominant Alabama running back.

Yes, I've popped over to the Alabama forum and had a read yesterday.
Many of them are in for heartache with their expectations.

You lost 3 regular season games and a bowl game last year. So again, you were expecting to lose more than 3 regular season games last year?

Yeah pretty much.
Not sure where you are trying to go with this crap. If you want an Alabama fan who is going to melt because it's not 2015, then find someone else.

I’m genuinely surprised that an Alabama fan thought you’d lose more than three games a season. You still had a top talent team.

or maybe, and hear me out, these recruiting services haven’t figured out how to really evaluate roster talent levels
It is your Auburn boy saying that Alabama having the #2 roster yet finishing ranked 8th is reason to panic. Are you saying that the 24/7 roster composite that titties and rainman love to cite may not be 100% accurate? If so you would be correct. The talent composite is no more useful than a Lindy’s preseason magazine ranking.

I was torn last season between 9-3 and 10-2. I went against my normally pessimistic nature and said 10-2. I did the same this year.
Many people in this world are not very logical, they are emotional thinkers. They flock here because emotion is what this place celebrates. Anyone who didn’t think that Alabama would take a step back after NIL, portal, and the greatest college football coach of all time retiring is a window licking moron.
What do you think about the step back Kirby has taken the last two years? From 2021-2023, 3 seasons, Georgia went 42-2, won 2 national championships, and went 24-0 in regular season league play.
The last two seasons Georgia has gone 23-5, 13-3 in regular season league play, hasn’t had a CFP win and hasn’t made the final four. And they didn’t make a wholesale coaching change.
Alabama had a wholesale program wide change and went 20-8. For Georgia it was business as usual and they went 23-5.
Are you panicking? Do you think Georgia is finished?

This season Georgia had the number #1 ranked roster. They went 0-1 in the CFP and lost to the 21st most talented roster.
Last season Georgia had the number #2 ranked roster. They went 0-1 in the CFP and lost to the 9th most talented roster.
Do you think Georgia is done? Has Kirby and company lost it? Or do you think maybe the formula for the roster talent composite may be flawed in the new portal era?

Not really though.
If we had hired Kirby Smart, then sure you might have expected better results because the styles of Saban and Kirby are pretty close. They generally wanted and recruited the same type of players.
DeBoer is not that. DeBoer runs more of a modern air raid offense, and rather than 3-4 man, runs a 4-3 zone defense. So just because you have a talented player doesn't mean he's great.
And then there is the fact of look at our coordinators, especially offensively in the final years of Saban. Absolutely fricking terrible. And honestly, I include Sark in that a bit because he's the one who recruited Milroe. Then BoB is like doesn't want the guy at all, but then Bob isn't really developing anyone himself. After BoB, then we ended up with Rees.
So the development was also lacking, especially with the NIL and players not having the same motivation to get better. Something I'm sure Georgia fans are becoming familiar with.
So he inherited a bunch of under developed players who weren't recruited for the scheme he runs. He was basically forced to run a different offense last year with Milroe. This year was closer to what he wants to run, but still also pretty far from it. Defensively we've adjusted decently/faster because you're not really doing a ton of difference in terms of player/size build.
But as far as the offensive line, our weakness this year - DeBoer wants athletic lineman who can pull and block in space as well as get to the 2nd level to block there. We did not have that capability and it killed our run game. Our lineman were too slow to run it.
And then with the air raid concepts, he's going to be passing the ball as an extension of the running game, we had a little bit of that this year.
Another part of his offense is a vertical passing game. We did not have that. In many cases due to the offensive line not being able to give Simpson time, but then also I think because Simpson just wasn't taking the shots at times or seeing the guys. Defenses started being able to use that to put more people at the line, making the run game even worse while constantly putting pressure. We weren't able to attack all parts of the field. Speed rushers hurt us badly.
Can look at Indiana and say he could have got more from the portal that fit his scheme and that's true. But people would have melted all over the place if we started dropping 4 and 5 star recruits for 3 stars. Yet the best players this year offensively were mostly transfers from Washington that followed DeBoer.
So it's a transition and we still managed to win 11 games, and we beat both rivals is what I see. I've been watching Alabama for many decades and I know what bad times actually look like. This ain't them.
People are putting more expectations on DeBoer than Saban had on him when he became HC.
And I haven't liked many of the Alabama players much lately since about 2022 to be honest. Entitled shite talkers with bad attitudes in many cases. And that is another thing DeBoer inherited. These losses are in many ways exactly what was needed. I don't see them talking shite like they were in the Vandy game last year when they lost. That was the kind of shite that reminded of the 2000 team. It seems to have improved greatly, and that's a sign of getting over entitlement.

Would have been better had Bama bought them tickets and allowed them to watch from the stands instead of from the woodshed.

I realize those days of stacking talent are over and I am thankful that we won those two championships at the time.

Finished? As in what way? We’re still winning the sec and did so this year with the youngest team in the league.

UGA is doing fine. You keep asking if UGA is done because they are losing in the playoffs. It sounds like you’re defensive about Bama. I never claimed that Bama was done, only that you thought Bama would lose 4 regular season games under Deboer.

Deboer is a good coach, but those shoes are not fillable. This is what happens when a legend retires. As an AU fan, I'm happy Saban is gone, but I have to acknowledge the likelihood that Bama will eventually find another great coach. May take a little time (a/k/a the 90s), but they will figure it out.
Bigger problem is the NIL situation. Both our Alabama universities are going to have to fight through this and adapt. In reality, any team not located in Texas is going to have to figure out a way to win with less talent.
