Does the conference share the research money? I'm pretty sure that goes to the individual school regardless of what sports conference the sports teams play in.
they don’t share the money, but they do share the research, which saves them a lot of money..
look guys, I don’t know what the B1G will do.. I’m not an insider or connected at all.. maybe I’m flat wrong.. just sharing what I’ve heard over the years..
Things do change as well.

Why do we want to keep expanding?
Posted on 8/23/25 at 9:12 pm to Themicah86
I don’t. I wish it would stop. The presidents and commissioner do because it will make more money.

Where was it reported that they said no to OU because they aren’t in the AAU?
I don’t remember where I read or heard it, but it wasn’t just one time.. It also might have been the previous administration who had a hard-on for the PAC and the B1G for academic reasons.. I have a degree from Texas, but I don’t give a rat’s arse about the academic side of conference affiliation. I always wanted the SEC..

So it’s just pure speculation.

I’s prefer to stay at 16, but I fear the B1G may swallow us whole if we don’t at least keep them somewhat close..
They don’t have the same quality of teams, but they do have a shite ton of eyeballs and that brings $$$ and that brings problems if the gap gets too big..

On the Texas and Oklahoma package to the B1G?
I definitely read that or heard it on a podcast.. Could that have been total bullshite? Yes, but I have a harder time believing that Texas didn’t at least discuss the option with the B1G.

I guess there will ultimately be 2 30 team conferences

I’m not sure Clemson or FSU have options outside of the Big 12.
They do not and they will never be in the SEC. That's already been settled by BHam and the Presidents.
Why people keep speculating about those two is beyond me. Once Bama and LSU joined the gang of six (UF, SC, UT, UGA, Auburn and KY), against FSU and Clemson, it was over.
No one voted to even enter into discussions (in the future) with those two over the summer.
It's going to be UNC and UVA if the ACC disintegrates when the final verdict is handed down and with the GOR buyout floor lowered to $120-$150 million. That would make the GOR buyouts reduced to under $80 million by the 2029-2030 season ... which is considered the earliest next expansion date for either the SEC or B1G.

Georgia Tech and Emory are AAU and there is plenty of research shared and partnerships between them and UGA. UGA gets plenty of grant money for research. You don't have to be AAU to get research money from fedgov.
I'm pretty sure you have no fricking clue what you are talking about.

I said the CIC shares all of their research, not AAU.. The CIC is the B1G schools + the University of Chicago. I’m pretty sure you need to learn to read better..

Those two schools could care less about what conference they are. They played home and away for 33 years before the ACC started.
The campuses are 12 miles apart. You seem unfamiliar with the Tobacco Road rivalry.

I think the Big would still prefer AAU status if possible. But it doesn’t matter as much to them as it used to. It’s all about the money now.
You understand the AAU schools receive far more money via AAU vs any college TV deal for athletics.

And do they spend that money on athletics?

West Virginia
Oklahoma State
These two are not getting an invite to the SEC or B1G.

I’d rate them this way:
1. Notre Dame
2. North Carolina
3. Florida State
4. Clemson
5. Virginia
6. Virginia Tech
7. Miami
8. Kansas
9. NC State
10. West Virginia
11. Georgia Tech
12. Cincinnati
13. Oklahoma State
14. Kansas State
15. Louisville
Let's analyze these candidates for SEC potential.
1. Notre Dame - No, not for SEC. Almost nothing fits. These are B1G White Catholic yanks if I've ever seen any. Their fan base is like Penn State times 10.
2. North Carolina - good add for SEC. Excellent geographical expansion. A good brand that won't compete in football. I like it.
3. Florida State - Another good one. This school will never outlive the semi-dynasty they created decades ago. The brand lives on, and the State of Florida merits two schools in the conference.
4. Clemson - This is a tough one, but I guess seems okay. Must be careful not to add a school just because at one moment in time, one player won them some hardware. Being from Texas, I never even heard much about Clemson until Trevor Lawrence came and went.
5. Virginia - I vote no. The state of VA is too damn close to DC, and not just geographically.
6. Virginia Tech - Nah, I know they are the favorite of the VA schools, but they just scream "ACC". The VA schools need to go join the yanks.
7. Miami - Hells no. Friggin tiny Liberal Arts college. Unlike FSU, this program *did* outlive its dynasty. Bad memory. Let it go.
8. Kansas - K-State would be better fit, but they don't make the bucks. And they're not really south OR east. They seem like a B1G fit alongside Nebraska.
9. NC State - Meh, this is podunk, I don't even know their mascot. I know we want to get into NC so bad, but UNC is the only thing worth having.
10. West Virginia - This stretches the geography, but this school fits like a mf. Fanbase, passion, rural culture.... these bastards fit.
11. Georgia Tech - Eff no, one Vandy is too much.
12. Cincinnati - For the SEC? H to the nay-nay.
13. Oklahoma State - Best add option from the west side. Geography is good, culture is good, and the rivalry with OU is reborn. I like it, I would take these guys in a heartbeat.
14. Kansas State - The $$$ is just not there. Too bad, because this program is a fighter, the little engine that could. But not SEC worthy.
15. Louisville - UK is enough. Nothing else needed from the bluegrass state. Certainly not a commuter school named after its town.

Virginia is definitely getting an invite to the SEC.
