This is about hiring someone who will become the face of your program and university. Public opinion matters. It's not a fricking court case.

Schiano was never entitled to the job.

So ... if the PSU football program ... whose Head Coach and a host of others, tried to cover-up child rape, molestation, etc (and DID for a long time)....in most heinous fashion ... does not deserve the Death Penalty .... then please enlighten me and the SECR regarding what type of circumstances, if any, would warrant the DP?

Largely due to hearsay, based on nothing. Or was it because the fans were disappointed with the hire?
The use of these accusations to discredit a hire fans don't like is setting a bad precedent.

What precedent is that? That people can hire whomever they want ... change their minds at some point ... etc?

UT could still hire him ... they just choose not to.

You are speculating on their reasons for not hiring him ... perhaps the AD found out that Schiano secretly roots for Bama or something.

Bottom line is that they can hire whomever they want for whatever reason ... or not.

If Schiano is innocent, and knew nothing, why isn't he suing the pants of of McQuery and whoever told him that?

Because McQueary was just relating to the grand jury second hand information that was told to him a decade before he ever got up on the stand. And even if he did file suit, there is a statute of limitations that might get the lawsuit thrown out. So what good would it do?

I disagree.

Has it been proven anyone in the PSU administration knew what was going on?

To penalize the university and fans by giving PSU the death penalty, because of the actions of a few, is a case of the punishment not fitting the crime.

Well Sarge since you were there to know all the facts aren’t you equally guilty of not reporting it?

That if someone doesn't get their way, they can make up stuff to make things go their way.

Sound familiar?

Because just about everyone involved is dead, dying, in jail, been fired, or is no longer working for the university. You are only punishing people that had nothing to do with it.

I mean Tennessee is an "at-will" state in terms of employment.

Yeah ... NOW ... I'm saying they deserved the DP THEN.

Should have busted them while Joe Pa was still alive ... so, he'd know the result of his cowardly and inexcusable INACTION.

He still died within a year or so of it coming out. And everyone else either resigned or was fired pretty quickly. They had a completely new administration by the next season. And the current players surely had nothing to do with it.

That's all well and good, but it's completely understandable for UT people to not want their university associated with that situation in any way.

Lets all be real. Schiano has worked for the Bears, the Bucs, Rutgers and OSU since his time at Penn State. This is the first time there has been this much of a moral uproar to my knowledge. The thing is, its the perfect get out of jail card for UTk. All they have to do is take a page out of the ol politics book and deem anyone who says anything different from them a backer of child rape and your opinion is now void. If they'd just cut the shite and say "hey, we thought/think we could have gotten a better coach" this shite will get over with quicker.

Yes, I do not think the football program should have been shut down. I believe in punishing the guilty only and there would be far too much collateral damage. Sandusky was prosecuted and is in jail for life as he should be. The university officials that covered it up were fired as also prosecuted. I’m not sure if those cases have concluded and they are in prison. I hope so. Paterno sadly died before he could be changed and tried. I normally think the NCAA vacating wins is stupid but in this case i wish they had stuck with erasing that selfish evil frick Paterno from the books.

quote:

Regarding Schiano ... no clue what he knew and did not know ... but, if there's any doubt whatsoever ... presumed guilty when it comes to child predators

That’s incredibly stupid and dangerous. Innocent until proven guilty is a bedrock of a free society and there can be no exceptions period.
As far Schanio getting a prestigious high paying job like HC at Tennessee is not a right. It’s just sad to me that people trashed him because they are morally outraged at Penn St. There are football reasons to not want him as a coach but this Clay Travis Twitter mob is a dangerous precedent.
