Prove it. How many college hockey teams average over 12000/game

19 schools averaged > 4,000 per hockey game (almost all in the Midwest/Northeast)

15 schools averaged > 4,000 per baseball game (almost all in the South/Texas)

39 schools averaged > 4,000 per hockey game

37 schools averaged > 2,000 per baseball game

It's actually very similar in attendance and regional appeal. Folks in places where college hockey matter LOVE college hockey. Folks in places where college baseball matters LOVE college baseball. Folks in regions or at schools that don't care about it barely even know if exists.

Amazing how that always seems to be the case.

By the same token you do realize that the only people who do care about college baseball are those whose teams are any good. That means 4-5 teams fans.

And it was several LSU fans that was telling Georgia fans to stop posting about football, so what does that say?

It also brings in less revenue than College Hockey & women’s basketball.

South Carolina women led the SEC with $4 million in revenue in '21-'22... 4 SEC baseball teams generated $5+ million in revenue.

In terms of profit, an SEC women's program hasn't turned one in at least 5 years (of schools that have reported financials).

Of the P5 public schools that reported financials, here are the last 5 "profit" leaders in WBB each year:

2021-22 Illinois: ($-43,156)
2020-21 Washington St: ($-1,658,972)
2019-20 Washington St: ($-2,060,949)
2018-19 Washington St: ($-1,802,066)
2017-18 UCLA: ($-1,226,176)

Wish they did more than just FBS schools. But the data is hilarious for every other sport outside of football.

My team was in the CWS but it’s still a minor sport? All college sports outside of football and men’s basketball are minor sports.

It's the only college sport (that matters) where the greatest prospects in the sport don't even want to participate in college, so you're getting second class talent.

Sure some guys are MLB level and some develop to MLB level, but it's the exception and not the rule.

"Why don't ESPN put on more dat college baseball?!" Because no one gives a shite out side of 2 weeks in June because there is literally no other sports on.

Won't work.
Baseball is a religion in Baton Rouge, and Alex Box is the Mecca of college baseball.
Deal with it.

Nobody said you can't enjoy it. Nobody said it was not great for you to be excited about it.

But, this is what the OP said:Those fans who think baseball is a minor sport... And you know what? They showed that it was. That doesn't mean it can't mean something to you or any other particular fan base. It just (apparently) doesn't resonate with a huge number of fans.

It lost out in tv ratings last year to girls softball.

LSU Wake had better viewership than the championship for softball did.

I know the year we won the CWS we still lost over $3.5 million on baseball.

It's third right behind men's basketball imo.

Baseball is a great sport though. I played my entire life and had D1 offers as a pitcher. Most people who never played don't really have a clue about how intricate of a sport it is.

College baseball? Yes, it is minor and is much closer to women's gymnastics than college basketball. It is so popular that it actually holds the championship event after students go home for the summer or graduate.

Crews absolutely was. Can’t talk for Langford and Skenes was obviously a late bloomer. I’m not sure why that matters though.

It matters if they were good enough to get drafted high out of high school or if they had to settle for 3 years of college ball.

Well that's not true. It may bring more on average per team. But that's misleading because there aren't many D1 College Teams so the top teams skew the average. There are about 300 D1 Baseball teams vs 60 D1 Hockey Teams.

Crews was good enough so there’s one example. But I still don’t see how that matters. Them going to college and being the top 3 prospects proves that it is worth it depending on the scenario. There’s more talent in college ball than there ever was in history.
