Great article.

quote:

When Corbin got his first head coaching job in 1987 at Presbyterian College in South Carolina — with no recruiting budget and thus no money for hotel rooms — he slept inside his Ford Escort during recruiting trips. On one such trip in Florida, Clemson Coach Jack Leggett jogged by his car while Corbin slept with his feet hanging out of the window in the corner of a Holiday Inn parking lot.

"It was too hot to have the windows up," Corbin said. "I remember him looking in the car and saying, 'Corbs, is that you?' I think he was kind of amazed that I was recruiting with no budget there, trying to go after kids he probably thought I had no shot at getting. But I think he admired my determination."

Well done MissouriBengal and well done Corbin. Not only did Corbin go above and beyond, you did too. As impressive as it is for a college coach to do this, I am more impressed a high school coach would go to this length to help a student. Our kids are molded and shaped not only by parents at home but by teachers and coaches in high school.

There are other Corbin stories about some of the good things he does.

I just wanted all of the SEC to know how awesome of a man Coach Corbin is, and hopefully Vanderbilt realizes how lucky they are to have him!

As others have said, we are very fortunate to have Coach Corbin leading our program and setting an example for young men both on and off the field. Thank you for sharing.

That is awesome. I have a lot of family near Cape myself. What high school do you coach for?

Damn, that is incredible

So unfortunate to hear what happened to Layne, but more importantly, he is still alive. As for Vandy, major props for this

You know, it never matters what school a player plays for. You hate to see an athlete have a life altering experience from an accident. I remember Ryan Duffy who played baseball for Msu a few years back who broke his neck diving off a dock in 2011 and now sits in a wheelchair.

The rivalry goes out the window at that point because when all said and done, this is someone's son, brother, grandson etc. It's always good to see fans from other schools understand this as we have all been through it. Good story and thanks for sharing.

Your exactly right. Rivalries go out the window when it comes to player injuries or even death. There is nothing like seeing a stadium full of fans stand up and cheer when the opposing player gets up off the ground after a possible injury. Every other SEC rallied around Chucky Mullins after his devastating hit.
