I love an English Major.
By your logic….Coach O jokingly told Derrick Brown and Marlon Davidson after the game at Red Stick in 2019 that he had to hold them the entire game to win.
With relation to 04…all of you bring out 03 and the beat down, which it was, how you forget Auburn lost in 02 in Los Angeles 24-17 to Carson Palmer and USC. Palmer went on to win the Heisman. Anthony Mix dropped a first down catch inside USC 20 late in 4th qtr. USC scored with just under 2 minutes to play to win the game. Campbell, Williams, Brown were Sophomores. Teams grow and change yearly. To imply Auburn would not have won in 04 is just assumption. That’s 20 years ago. Move on!

They were AP national champions that season.
Interesting tidbit. Until that championship game, Oklahoma steadfastly and exclusively acknowledged the AP as the only selector of national champions. They even listed their 2000 BCS championship as an AP National Championship on their website, and on the player's tunnel leading on to the turf at Gaylord Memorial Stadium.
They changed that when the AP pulled out of the BCS and left them playing for a championship that they didn't officially recognize.

. It was not even a question who should have been in the game at the time.
Patently false. Was a major point of debate as anyone alive then would remember

Auburn should've been there and would've given a much better account than the Sooners did as the Sooners played a cream puff schedule as they always did back then.
Auburn had lost to USC the previous 2 years. Nobody wanted to see a third.

Auburn played a sec schedule.
Meh, how many good teams were in the sec that season? Bama was on sanctions and won 4 games, LSU was like 8-4, Georgia was ok, UT was ok, Florida stunk. Auburn was a great team no doubt but the sec was a lot different in 04.

Auburn played a sec schedule. OU played Big 12. Auburn clobbered Georgia, beat us, beat Florida if I remember right, beat Bama.
SEC had nowhere near the clout it does today.

In fact, Urban Meyer had to lobby hard for the Gators to play THE Ohio State University. The media mocked Florida until the second quarter.
I hate Florida as much as the next guy but them beating OSU was huge.
The media was in shambles when this happened

I remember watching Around the Horn as a student and they acted like Florida was trash and Ohio State was gonna boat race them.
Not so fast my friend.

LSU won the national championship in 2003 but the media tried to give it to USC.
What I think you meant to say is this: the media gave it to USC. Whatever, split titles still count.
