I think they've been around awhile. I swear I stopped by one back in the early 90's out near Birmingham(but it wasn't on 65, it was out towards Haleyville). But all I bought was a coke.
Out west they have Jack in the Box. It's not very good. Burger is dry as frick.

I swear I've tried, but I just don't get the fascination over Whataburger.
Whataburger used to be way way better in the 80's / 90's in Texas. Maybe they still are good there in Texas. The ones I've ate at outside of Texas in Arizona are complete garbage though...No better than a Jack in the Box and sometimes even worse.
In and Out is alright, but the best fast food burger I've had is from a place called "The Habit" near where I live. Culvers is great too..

Not sure how you've heard of In and Outs. I've only seen them in Austin and maybe Dallas.
