Whataburger's burgers are great, but their fries leave something to be desired. And that something is "flavor."
That's why you grab a few packs of spicy ketchup to go with them. You haven't lived until you get a double whataburger with Pepperjack cheese, grilled onions, grilled green chili's and grilled jalapenos.

That will set you right for a week.

cheese curds were pretty freakin' good.

Probably Top 5 fast food menu item for me right now.

Maybe they are better in y'all's neck of the woods

In all seriousness, that could be the difference.

Maybe the beef there is local (which would make sense), and shipped or not as quality-controlled elsewhere.

Because that's the part I've never been impressed with.

This will bring the vitriol, but I agree.

I swear I've tried, but I just don't get the fascination over Whataburger.
If you simply order a combo straight off the menu you're doing it wrong. Gotta customize a bit..

And if In N Out ever expands more eastward like whataburger has then their quality will suffer too. Which is exactly why they really haven’t past Texas.

It's over-rated out west too. The burgers are pretty good, but not the hype people claim. It is however very fricking good for the price. Hard to find a better deal outside a Wienerschniztel.

I think for In-N-Out to expand to an area they need to have a local cattle supply because they do not freeze the beef.

Fun fact, not every Whataburger building is orange.

No you're right, I do enjoy the jalapenos and other fixins, even on restaurant-style burgers.

I will venture a guess that most of us on this board live within a fairly close radius to a gas station or a mom-and-pop BBQ joint with a cheap, huge greasy cheeseburger that absolutely smokes it.

Since I got my griddle last year, we rarely venture out for burgers anymore.

Whataburger is a large ball of grease. I haven't eaten it in more than a year now. In N Out is still really cheap, but the burgers aren't all that large. Like I said, significantly better options in Colorado than both of them
Whataburger quality can vary. When they are on their game, they are good.

I’m convinced that the hype for In ‘N Out is mostly attributable to the “secret” menu items making people feel like they are cool insiders. For example, as you note, the burgers are small; a double at In ‘N Out is only about 2/3 the size of a double at Whataburger. But, if you go to the secret menu and order a “3x3,” you’ll get something comparable to a Whataburger double in size and price.

Meh. I kinda like Jacks as a fast food place. They are Alabama based and working their way around Ga. I usually stop at the Chatsworth location.

Auburn, AL has a whataburger downtown now. For several years.

It’s so out of place right on Toomer’s Corner. That spot should be a bar. Like Bodega.

I think this is the case for just about anywhere these days.

Some chain food overall is almost not fit to eat on certain days, but when it's "on," it's "on."

Actually to me the most consistent chain burger anywhere is probably Five Guys, but you'll no doubt pay a premium for that reliability.

That's because aggy pitched a fit when Whataburger came to Collie Station. They must paint EVERYTHING that depressing Maroon color.

I worked for Coke for a few years and got to know a few of the service techs who would install & service the fountain machines in fast food places & restaurants. Good Lord, some of their stories ... I didn't eat fast food for about 5 years.

I stopped by one near Birmingham on my last trip home.

It was pretty good, I'd stop again. I liked their fries. My wife says their chicken is good as well, I got a burger.

It's weird. I get the In n out thing with SoCal, although it's overrated, but Whataburger isn't even good fast food
