LSU says budget cuts could mean widespread layoffs, elimination of classes

Article is from February. If the State runs a shortfall, in theory, until it is resolved, LSU does too. The Legislature met,it was resolved and everybody lived. Except maybe disappointed rivals who don't understand State budgeting battles and truly believed LSU was about to turn out the lights.

The Athletic department is SELF-FUNDED. Say it with me. SELF-FUNDED.The Athletic Department funds itself AND contributes millions annually to the LSU general fund. I understand your ill-informed desire to troll LSU fans but don't expect your willful idiocy to stand uncorrected.

This could go bad for LSU. Don't hire the rt guy and all that work this staff has put in on the recruiting trail will be wasted. Also current players could transfer and not have to sit out.

All we hear is how $$ strapped LSU is. Funny how all of this "private money" can pop out of nowhere to help fire a football coach. FK the kids education but damnit we will win at football.

Get off your high gator. You'd be saying the same thing if FLA was in this position, dumbass.

When Miles is terminated be ready for even more disappointments. The LSU program will become a coaching carousel.

It was before Les. You just don't get that kind of stability. At least the people who hate him will soon see the light when recruits start bailing, players transfer and the new coach still loses to Bama.

Uh, no you're not. Les Miles is no Mike Shula. And you are guaranteed to not get Nick Saban nor 'the next Nick Saban.'

You guys will just have to live and learn, I guess.

The BR melts will continue for the foreseeable future.

I do wonder about fans that speculate Gruden will fill their coaching vacancy. He hasn't coached a down of football in 7 years, and it's been almost 25 years since he was involved in CFB. He's a great coach, to be sure, but 1) he's been out of that profession for a while and 2) if he was interested in returning to coaching at some major CFB program, surely he could have found something before now.

Another thing, why would any coach who is successful want to come to a program that fires coaches who win NCs, conference championships, and stays consistent with wins and recruiting? The answer is that very, very few will if they're smart. This isn't even comparable to a situation like UT firing Fulmer as he had lost a lot. I see this being a really bad move if it's made.

This dumbass lives 20 min from Baton Rouge, all we hear is how much trouble the school is having financially. So we'll cut these classes and lay these ppl off.. what? Les lost 3 games? Oh he's gotta go. 20 mil? no problem.

College football is changing and a coach dedicated to the offensive philosophy Les is... just can't cut it anymore. Saban adapted, Patterson adapted, and Les hasn't.

He's a hell of a coach and a better man and we should build him a fricking statue. But it looks like 2011 broke him.. and it's getting worse.

I find it hard to believe that we couldn't find another coach who couldn't maintain .500 in the SEC.. especially with your permanent east opponent being down.

That being said... go big. Chip Kelly, Petey, Herman, jimbo, etc.

Louisiana doesn't produce OL.. but it produces athletes. It's time to feature them and spread teams out

Another decline in play in 2016 could further reduce LSU's status as a premier program. Recruiting would take a substantial hit, with that level of uncertainty surrounding the program.

Florida has been down the last few years making Miles record since 2011 appear better than it should be. If UF wasn't down LSU would probably be sub .500 in SEC play post 2011
