Ranked 3rd in the SEC because of that 10 year stretch. You've usually been 4th. Not a knock.

Or would we "usually" be 4th because of the that 10 year stretch from 90-99?

You can't take away a good decade and leave the worst one. Take out both and we are still sitting pretty

If not for your recent "10 year stretch" where do you rank nationally? Like 3-5 instead of 1-2? All these things happened, this game is stupid...

Ironically the same man that saved us from our dark time saved you as well. And we both had killer decades because of it. You get to keep yours though right?

LSU - Bama national rankings by decade

-------LSU----Bama
30s:---10-------5
40s:---20------15
50s:---24------23
60s:-----7-------1
70s:----17-------2
80s:----18------11
90s:----35-------8
00s:------6------15
10s:------9-------1

Not trolling, y'all are #1 all time. Just trying to give some reference

3 decades as an AP top 2 program is better than anyone else, y'all are the best. Should I point out the 20 and 30 year gaps y'all aren't a top 5 program?
4 decades in the top 10 for us, with only 2 outside the top 20 easily makes us top ~10 all time. We have always been pretty fricking good at football, the vast majority of CFB hasn't...

In the SEC only Tennessee compares. We alternate between 2 and 3 (in conference) and 9-11ish (nationally) by publication.

that's an 80 year time frame and you found 4 10+ year gaps without a top 10 finish.

Those "gaps" account for over 60% of the 80 years or am I misunderstanding your point?

But yet, you all fired Les for giving you the stats you just mentioned, and would have continued to do so.

You are missing my point. A top 10 program doesn't mean you finish top 10 every single year.

Y'all have only been a top 5 program for half of the 8 decades of the AP Poll, and you sit at #1 all time in the AP rankings

Why is it so hard to understand 20 individual top 10 finishes in 80 years, along with 4 of 8 decades as a top 10 overall program is a frick ton. And it's not like we finished unranked the individual years we finished outside the top 10. There are very few programs that can say all that

No LSU is not Bama, but there are some great fricking programs that are not Bama. Like every single one that is great

My comment was more about referring to the years you weren't top 10 as gaps. Seems like it's the other way around.

Yes we did. As would you if Saban started losing 3-4 a year and couldn't beat a rival in 6 straight tries.

When you start coming down you want to stay up, sometimes it works out sometimes it doesn't.

All I know is we will be back, just like the 30s, the 40s, the 50s, the 60s, the 70s, the 80s, the 00s, and the early 2010s. LSU has been and always will be fielding top 10 teams. Just like you will always be back to top 5 status eventually even when in a drought. Top programs are top programs

You are right we do have gaps. Everyone does

My argument was that because we have gaps does not mean we are not top 10 all time, we are more consistent than anyone outside of a select few programs

The problem is that Orgeron is letting the guys do whatever they want. No organization, no discipline, no accountability and they practice like a high school organization. He is too much of a friend to the kids and not enough of a true father figure. Add to it that his best 2 players are selfish, prima Donna types and it equals a poorly prepared football team. This shite mirrors the Mike Dubose era at Alabama.

Actually, it sounds a lot like Sumlin's teams

What am I missing?
The AP top 100 only gives us credit for two championships?

I wasn't saying LSU isn't a top 12 program all time, I was pointing out that that may be why some people would say football started in 2000 for LSU fans.

This explains a lot regarding LSU's decline by 1BIGTigerFan AP top football programs historically Basically says that LSU is ranked 11th out of all football programs and 3rd in the entire SEC. So I think that LSU is a top program and we flirted with #1 for about 10 years.

It also says you only have two NCs..

Fair enough, and to that I'll still say it didn't start in the 90s either. We have multiple top 10 finishes in every other decade besides the 90s, with more top 20 finishes inbetween them.

I'm talking 50s, 60, 70s, 80s, 00s, 2010s, you name it. Every single one but that terrible stretch in the 90s. We had two top 13 finishes in that 90s drought from hell though, just not "top 10".

That was our equivalent of your 2000s pre 08. Ours lasted a year or two longer

Also we are ranked 10th nationally to Tennessees 9th by the only publication that ranks 1869-2000. We absolutely did not come out of nowhere. That was more UF in the 90s.

We do have only 2 AP National Championships.

58 and 07. USC took the AP in 03 and we got the BCS

Outdated list. AP has Alabama #2 program all-time now.

You just have to take out our best 10 year stretch and leave someone else's best stretch.

Just 12% of all final AP polls, a shite ton of wins, and a couple of championships.
